You need to replace the blower motor resister to get the other speeds back.

This truck has concerns with the blower motor resistor and connectors. The resistor can burnt out and the connecotr can melt. Remove the hush panel under the passengers side dash, the blower motor and the resistor are both in the same location. Remove the resistor connector and see if its melted, replace the connector if its melted or damaged. Remove the resistor and inspect, you should not see any burnt parts, replace it if you find any burnt parts.

2007 Chevrolet Silverado (Classic) Built Prior to September 1, 2006
2004-2006 GMC Envoy, Envoy XL, Sierra, Yukon, Yukon Denali, Yukon XL
2007 GMC Sierra (Classic) Built Prior to September 1, 2006
with HVAC System AC Front, Manual Temp Control (RPO CJ3) or Heater Only (RPO C42)

This bulletin is being revised to clarify the Warranty Information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number 05-01-38-012B (Section 01 -- HVAC).

Condition
Some customers may comment that the blower will only work on low speeds or has become inoperative.

Correction
REPLACE THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR AND RESISTOR MODULE CONNECTOR.

Replace the blower motor resistor and module connector using the following procedure:

# Remove the blower fuse.
• Fullsize Trucks and Utility Vehicles -- Htr A/C & HVAC 1 fuses
• Midsize Utility Vehicles -- Blower Fuse 35 located in the Underhood Fuse Block
# Lower the hush panel or close-out panel enough to gain access to the resistor module connector.
# Disconnect the connector from the resistor module.
# Remove the tape from the wiring harness to expose the wiring.

# Cut the wires back far enough from the connector to eliminate any melted insulation on the wire.

Tip
Use the old connector as a map for splicing the wires for the new connector. Be sure to use the correct crimping tool from the terminal repair kit J 38125. Use only Duraseal splice sleeves. Other splice sleeves may not protect the splice from moisture or provide a good electrical connection.
# Install the new connector. Use the yellow splice sleeves provided with the connector.
# Install new blower motor resistor.
# Reinstall the fuse or connector block. Test the blower motor to make sure all speeds are functional.
# Reinstall the hush panel/close-out panel.

Parts Information
Important: To determine which resistor to use for Fullsize Truck/Utility vehicles, search the parts catalog using the vehicle's VIN.

I replaced the heater blower resistor, and the fan is still missing the same speed?


The blower motor is ground side controlled through the switch first and then through the blower resistor. It is entirely possible for the resistor to be fine and the switch is actually your problem.

I need to know what speed is not working and if you have a test light or a volt meter? I will then be able to get you some detailed instructions on what to check to find the true source of you problem.

If you don't have a test light or a voltmeter than you next best possible fix is replacing the fan speed switch.

SOUNDS LIKE THE SWITCH & OR THE BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR, ARE THE PROBLEM WITH THE LOWER SPEEDS. SPEED 5 MAY HAVE ITS OWN FUSE, REFER TO OWNERS MANUAL FOR INFORMATION ABOUT THE HEATER/AC FUSE.

2005 gmc sierra heater fan quit working. I lost the fifth speed months ago and a couple of days ago lost the other four, the first day the fan would come on sometimes while driving then quit after a while...


1-4 speed are the blower motor resister . It controls all 1-4 speeds, also it's under the passanger side dash around fan, the 5th speed runs off a fuse the is located in the fuse box. It's one of those square fuses , not the relays but fuses. The resister will run $15 and fuse $5 . Good luck. I have replace these before

Hi,
Don't go there just yet ! Most heater motor speed problems relate to the heater resistor ! It's located in the ducting close to the motor assy and usually has 4/5 wires on to it and a 2 screw fixing. This componant must be cooled (hence air duct location) and is solely responsible for motor speeds ! You can check motor fan by test lamp/meter ! Good Luck

you need to replace the blower resistor located on the blower housing between the blower and the evaporator behind the glove box...this should fix you rite up.......

Your switch acts as a reastat which adjusts your speeds your switch is going bad so you only have the two speeds left on that reastat.. thanks Jerry

Heater motor will not work on #5, it worked for 5days after resis


First check to make sure the electrical connector on your switch is o.k. if it looks burnt /brown or melted replace your switch, and the connector.If all is well then replace your blower motor, it may be drawing to much current (AMPS). Along with a new resistor block.

AC\Heater fan only blows slow speed. What is the problem?


heater speed switch in passenger side in foot area above toes in heater box one wire plug on it 2- 5-6 mm screws hold it in that is your fan speed switch they are a common issue it is the season for those now usually you loose 1 speed at a time until nothing don't be caught with out that not working at all you windows will fog bad!!!!and no heat period.
