Question about 1988 Mazda B2200

Clutch pedal very hard to press will not go to floor i think its the rod when i move the rod clutch pedal will go to the floor and stay there i replaced the master cyclinder it seems as if the rod is to short

the problem is that either the master or slave cylinder for the hydraulic clutch have failed, it is always recommended that they both replaced together, u can bleed the clutch but the problem will occur again.

hi considering age of car and that you have no leaks on hydraulics? may i suggest you try bleeding the clutch to rid of old fluid a couple of pumps may be suffice ? b/fluid does absorb moisture and heat over time hence recommendation tat fluid be changed at period specified in handbooks ie 12 monthly ?

Clutch pedal sitting on floor/no return.


It may be the clutch assy. but before I did that I would check the cable out as it seems strange the pedal would stay on the floor even if the clutch went out. There should be a return spring on the pedal.

New clutch installed. No pedal, stays on floor unless I bring it back up with my hand. No resistance.


`Did it bleed, did fluid come out in a steady stream? Isn't there a spring to bring the pedal off the floor?
Check the linkage of the pedal to rod to the clutch master cylinder, make sure that is all together. Any chance the master has an internal leak and won't build hydraulic pressure down at the slave? If you get it bled, then watch the slave operation while someone works the clutch pedal. The piston on the slave should extend and push the clutch fork enough to disengage the clutch.

Will not go into gear


You may have to bleed the slave cylinder to get it to work. Bleed it just like brakes-pedal going to floor, open valve. Close valve, pump pedal and pedal to floor again with bleed valve open. When fluid comes out in steady stream with pedal pressed, done. Watch the plunger on the slave cylinder when clutch is pressed-it should move out to move the clutch lever.

It is a five speed and it want go into gear and stay in gear


Does your clutch pedal move in and out freely?Or is it to the floor?If it's to the floor then it's your clutch slave cylinder.This is a weak point on most 5 speeds it seems.Also check your fluid.If it stays up and moves,then it is most likely in your tranny.This is your synchros.You could also check your cable and make sure it is adjusted,If it gets out of line then it can make it hard or impossible to shift.Hope this help get you somewhere.

The clutch is stuck to the floor bord and i cant shift


you may have a faulty clutch master cylinder or faulty clutch slave cylinder- leaking clutch fluid. most of the time both are replaced at the same time which should be recomended by your mechanic, the bolts to the master cylinder are very hard to get to and require the right tool.
you should be able to move car forward by selecting 1st then cranking engine till it starts, gear changes while driving are hard but not impossible. i recommend a tow truck to a local repairer.

there is a plastic clip that connects the clutch pedal to the rod that goes to the master cylinder, chances are that it let go. Bad thing is that it is only available from GM along with the rod. It is around 50

Ford f 150 1988 clutch has no spring and lays on the floor


Get your face near the floorboard, and look at the clutch pedal. Now look at what is connected to it that runs through the body and down toward the tranny. If this rod moves in and out of its hole when you move pedal...

...then stick your head under vehicle and find where this rod comes out. There is another rod hooked to it that actuates the clutch. One of these has likely fallen off, due to a worn rod and bushing. Sometimes they are so worn, they must be replaced. If you catch it in time, you can replace the plastic bushing and/or just snap it back together. Sounds like your linkage has come apart between pedal and clutch. Rod has some adjustment, but only to a point.

Clutch check


you have civic SI type R with the K20A engine and 6sp transmission? correct?

yes the clutch is adjustable.

  1. loosen the clutch pedal position switch(lower of the 2 switches) locknut and back off the clutch pedal position switch.
  2. loosen the clutch push-rod locknut and turn the push-rod in or out to get the desired height and stroke of the pedal.
  3. tighten the push-rod locknut
  4. with the clutch pedal released, turn the clutch pedal position switch in until it contacts the clutch pedal.
  5. turn the clutch pedal position switch in an additional 3/4 to 1 turn.
  6. tighten the clutch pedal position switch locknut.
  7. loosen the clutch interlock switch(the upper switch) locknut and then the interlock switch.
  8. press the clutch pedal to the floor.
  9. release the pedal about 1/2 in. from the fully depressed position, and hold it there. adjust the position of the interlock switch so that the engine will start with the clutch pedal in this position.
  10. tighten the interlock switch locknut.
clutch pedal stroke should be: 5.1 - 5.5 in
clutch pedal height should be: 7.76 in

if adjusting the clutch doesn't help with the transmission feeling notchy, may be the syncros.
