    1. Disarm the air bag system, refer to the Air Bag section of t manual. Remove the upper steering column shroud. Pull down the lower steering column shroud enough to access the lock cylinder retaining tab. Turn the ignition key to the RUN position. Insert a small prying tool into the tab access hole and depress the tab. Pull the ignition lock cylinder from the steering column.

      To install:

      1. With the ignition key in the lock cylinder, turn the key to the RUN position. Depress the lock cylinder retaining tab.

      2. The shaft at the end of the ignition lock cylinder lines up to the socket at the end of the lock cylinder housing. The socket must be in the RUNposition for the socket and lock cylinder to line up.

      3. Line up the lock cylinder to the grooves in the lock cylinder housing. Insert the ignition lock cylinder into the housing until the retaining tab sticks through the opening in the housing.

      4. Lightly pull on the ignition lock to make sure it has engaged the retaining tab.

      5. Turn the key to the OFF position. Remove the ignition key.

      6. Install the steering column covers.

      7. Arm the air bag system, refer to the Air Bag section of this manual.

Here is how take care of the SRS (Air Bag) System.

      Arming and Disarming the System

Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable and wait at least 2 minutes before doing any work on the air bag system. The system is designed to operate after a brief loss of electrical power.

      1. Disconnect and isolate the negative battery cable.

      2. Wait 2 minutes to allow the system capacitor to fully discharge before servicing the vehicle.

Reconnect the battery. The air bag system will automatically initialize.

      1. Reconnect the negative battery cable.

      2. Turn the ignition switch to the RUN position.

      3. Verify the SIR indicator light flashes 7-9 times, if not, inspect the system for malfunction.

As you can see, it is a very simple to replace the Ignition Lock Cylinder. If you have any doubts, let me know.

You may use some WD-40 or similar lubricant to make the key turn to the RUN position one last time for removal. Basically the procedure is to take the top steering column cover I think is two screws and loosen the bottom cover, turn the key to the RUN position and push the the tab in with a small screwdriver or something like that.

          Good Luck!

        2. Rene J Solis Sep 09, 2010

If your husband has any doubts, just have him place a comment.

        3. Rene J Solis Sep 10, 2010

The reason the cylinder lock does not turn is that the pins inside it are "frozen or stuck", use the key that is in better shape and something like WD40 or RustEater to try to get it to turn. If this fails, use a drill with a 1/4" bit and drill the pins out. Once the pins and the small cylinder are out, the cylinder lock will turn easily, place it in the RUN position, press the locking tab with a small screwdriver and pull the cylinder lock out. Make sure no debris is in the housing before installing the new cylinder.

Remove ignition lock to switch link 1995 suburban

The ignition lock assembly contains two components: a lock cylinder to deter theft and an electrical portion that supplies power to electrical components such as the radio, electric windows, and windshield wipers. The electrical portion of the ignition switch also provides power to the starter motor to start the engine.
The ignition lock is an anti-theft device that prevents a vehicle from being driven unless the ignition key is in the ignition switch. If the ignition key is not in the ignition switch, it 's impossible to turn the steering wheel.
To replace the ignition switch cylinder lock, the trim panels around the steering wheel are removed. Then the tamper-proof hardware that attaches the ignition lock assembly to the steering column is removed. The ignition lock assembly is removed from the steering column, and the lock cylinder is replaced. The new ignition lock is reattached to the steering column, and the trim panels are replaced.make sure you dissconect battery first the 1997 had a recall on the ignition switch dont no if the 1995 had a recall if so they will replace for free

        1991 Dodge Spirit ignition problem

The "SPRING-BACK" Action is Originated in the Ignition Switch itself (THE ELECTRICAL SWITCH) I think that is where you should Look. On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly. Refer to IGNITION LOCK .
Disable airbag, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair . After procedure has been completed, rearm airbag system.

On these models, the ignition lock and ignition switch are removed as an assembly.
        1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
        2. Remove tilt lever.
        3. Remove three Torx column cover attaching screws, then the upper and lower column covers.
        4. Using tamper proof Torx bit tool No. 440-TX20H or equivalent, remove three ignition switch mounting screws.
        5. Carefully pull switch away from column. Release two connector locks on seven terminal wiring connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
        6. Release connector lock on four terminal connector, then disconnect from ignition switch.
        7. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch as follows:
          1. With key inserted and switch in Lock position, use a small screwdriver to depress ignition lock retaining pin flush with lock cylinder surface.
          2. Rotate key clockwise to Off position. Ignition lock should now be unseated from ignition switch assembly. Do not attempt to remove ignition lock at this time.
          3. With ignition lock in unseated position (lock bezel approximately 1/8 inch above halo light ring), rotate key counterclockwise to Lock position, then remove key.
          4. Remove ignition lock from ignition switch.
        1. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
          1. Connect two wiring connectors to ignition switch. Ensure switch locking tabs are fully seated in connectors.
          2. Install ignition switch on steering column.
          3. On column shift models, shift lever must be in P position and park lock dowel pin on ignition switch assembly must engage with column park lock slider linkage.
          4. On all models, verify ignition switch is in Lock position (flag parallel with ignition switch terminals).
          5. Apply a dab of suitable grease to flag and pin, then position park lock link and slider to mid-travel.
          6. Position ignition switch against lock housing face. Ensure pin is inserted into park link contour slot.
          7. Install ignition switch retaining screws and torque to 12-22 lb-in .
          8. With ignition lock and switch in Lock position, insert ignition lock into ignition switch until it bottoms.
          9. Insert key, then while carefully pushing ignition lock toward ignition switch, turn key clockwise to Run position.
          10. Check for proper operation on ignition switch in all positions.
