Question about 1999 Dodge Durango

1 Answer

2nd gear only on the trans is slipping. i changed oil\filter. still has the problem. i have the tow package, (big trans) 5.2 engine. I have no codes, all other gears work good. a friend of mine said it could be the valve body, or some silinoid. it runs great but that 2nd gear is killing me. once i pass 2000 rpms, i have to ezzup on the gas pettal so it could change to 2nd gear.

It can't be a valve/solenoid problem, this would have been detected by the TCM and shown as an error code. No, this is a purely mechanical fault - the clutch plates for the second gear are worn out and must be replaced.
This is going to be expensive, the entire transmission will have to be dismantles to access and replace them.

I have a 07 Suzuki Swift auto that is over reving when it changes from 1st to 2nd ! the oil is still pink and clean ! Any thoughts pls.

we dont have swifts here, what engine is there? of the 5 engines/ (transmission are matched to engines)
pink =ATF,
sure, that is called FLARE, (or false neutrals)
the transaxle (A/T) is needing service.
at the least a new filter, service inside?
if the filter packs the line pressure test fails, so does trans.
that slip , also burns up the clutch packs. in most cases. (inside)

How do i know if my transmission is slipping

How many miles have you done? Is the trans correctly filled with oil? Why do you think its slipping, when it changes up is there some delay in forward pull from the engine that gives similar symptoms to clutch slip? Its not that old and a well maintained trans that hasn't done much towing should do 150k without problems. Towing heavy trailers kills auto trans.

1994 voyager 3.0 slips in first only reverse and all other gears fine

Have to rebuild the transaxle

You changed the fluid on an already slipping
trans,now it is worse.

Too old a vehicle to put time & money into

I owned a trans repair shop in the early 1990's
& 50% of my work was caravans & taurus ,so that
tells you their not a good unit at all, only the ford
windstar & it's replacement were as bad or worse

Try changing oil and filter. Also change speed / shift sensor if the oil and filter change doesn't do anything.

Tranny slips & wont shift past 2nd gear

Ok, you will need to first check the fluid level in this transmission. if the trans is sealed, you will need to take to the dealer for a fluid check. assuming that the fluid level is proper, this will usually be caused by a faulty transmission control module and faulty shift solenoids as well. these devices are located on and inside the trans and i recommend testing each device for flaws.

Most slips are the result of gear ware but, the solenoids and TCM will cuse this issue as well.

do u have any trouble codes for the trans? u need to find out to see if a shift solenoid (possible 2-3) has failed.
