It is possible that your carb is worn and putting too much fuel in from when it was only a NEW cat will clean up the excess emissions...worth checking ??

1992 dodge ram 150 bucks when going steady 60MPH. I just had transmission rebuilt, replaced wires, cap and router, and oxygen sensor . My catalytic converter is purple and I don't want to replace it until I figure out the small bucking issue at 60 MPH.

My 2002 grand am se it will not pass inspection ,there is no ckeck engine on .my 025 not ready

You did not give enough information about what you did not pass on emissions. Usually it is the co2. If that is the case, it is either the sensors at the catalytic convertor need replacing, or the catalytic converter itself. You can get sensors at the wrecking yard but NOT catalytic converters.

Car won't pass emissions after replacing catalytic converter

Did you scan for codes to see if there were any besides the catalytic convertor? Unless she's running leaded gas it shouldn't have to be replaced yearly. Is she using an additive that puts lead into the system? I would also check the wire hareness for the O2 sensors. It's not unusual for them to wear and rub a bare spot in the insulation. This will case a short and give a false reading to the computer. Is there any chance that there is a leak in the exhaust? If air is getting in at a joint or a small pinhole ti will screw up the O2 sensor readings.
Hope this helps.

How to clean catalytic converter

You cant-sorry. If you have an emergency situation and are stuck somewhere you can take it off-punch out the honeycomb of platinum with a broom handle or prybar and replace. It will never pass emissions again but itll get you where you need to go.

I cut the catalytic converter off 04 pontiac grand am and the horn has sounded and will not go off until i disconnect the battery.Whats the problem

If you remove catalytic converter then car will not pass the emissions tests, They are there to cut down on emissions from exhaust.

I need to replace my mazda mpv catalytic

Ok the fastest way to solve weather it is the cats in the exhaust system is to take it too a exhaust specialist and ask them to do a exhaust pressure test. They should have all the pressure drop data there and can tell you if there is to much restriction in the exhaust, if there is to much chances are they will be the cats, usually the front one. Yep your dad is correct with his theory, but excessive overfuelling will also cause the cats to build up excess heat and start to melt, or fall apart. So get a good service when your able too, plugs/filters and oils. Yep your firing order is correct.

P0420 means Catalyst System Efficiency Below Threshold, Bank 1
It means that your catalytic converter, in the exhaust system is not working fine, as its emissions are polluting the air too much.

The catalytic converter is part of the exhaust system. The way to test this part is by doing an emission test. The two OBD codes that you are getting are already a test telling you that the converter must be replaced, unless an emission test done at a garage says the opposite.

This kind of problem will trigger the check engine light, and your car will also waste too much fuel.
You also risk to get in trouble if the car goes through an Air Pollution control, as the car won't pass an emission test in this condition.

To conclude, the Catalyst System must be replaced, the O2 Sensors are fine.

This is a repair that should be done at a garage, however you can find DIY instructions here:How to Replace a Catalytic Converter or you can get more detailed instructions, and step by step illustrated procedure purchasing a repair manual.

What can i do without

Everything but the catalytic converter. I live in TN, the emissions test that I have to pass is a sniffer test. I have absolutely no emissions controls on my car, but when it comes time to pass emissions , i bolt the converter back on. Does fine.
