04 buick rainier, charge light goes off during high rpms

have the alternator bench tested for problem in regulator or rectifier. check and adjust the drive belt. Charge light should go off at at idle and remain off during whole of engine operation
if they come on at idle it means that the alternator is not producing a charge current and needs attention.

Have you checked your cooling fan to see if it is working propely? Let the car idle and get warm and listen for the fan to kick in (if they are electric) or just watch to see if the fan starts to spin faster if it is the old school type with a clutch. Have you replaced the thermostat? A bad one will let the temp rise since it opens too late and then the temp will drop off. But it won't due this only at a light and it will do it infrequently.

Error codes P0128 & P0442

Well code 128 is for the engine running too cool. Which is usually a thermostat problem. But it could be the coolant temp sensor.
You may have a different sensor for the gauge and for the computer.
Code 442 is for a small leak detected in the EVAP system. It can be a faulty gas cap, but since you have replace the cap, its probably a hose or gasket. The computer vents the gas tank to the vapor canister when the engine is running. It checks gas tank pressure to make sure all valves are closed when you turn the truck off.

With the A/C on the coolant fan should run constantly to cool the A/C condenser in front of the radiator. With the A/C off the coolant fan should come on around 210 degrees and stay on until the coolant temperature drops to between 190 and 200 degrees. Hope this helps.

I would suspect either the temp guage or the coolant temperature sensor being inaccurate. The new thermostat is probably working good, or else you wouldn't have a very warm heater. If you have electric radiator fans, you might check to see if they are running all th time. Electric cooling fans should only come on when the temperature sensor reaches a predetermined coolant temp, or when the a/c or defroster is turned on. If the fan runs all the time, the engine would not reach normal operating temperature.
