Broken Drivers Seat 1995 3 Series

Hello All,

I have a 1995 318 TDS from new. Last week, the left hand side of the seat
seemed to 'snap' when I was getting into the car. The result is that I now
appear to be sitting slighty twisted in the seat. My right hand shoulder is
in the correct location, but my left hand shoulder is further back by about
75mm.

I have not taken the seat out yet to try to fix it, I thought that I would
ask here in case anyone had any similiar expereince and can advise.

Thanks in advance for your time and help,

BTW, I drive a 5 Series 4.4 litre last week and it was absolutely
wonderful - a very fast car.

Best Regards

Mark L. Breen

Well, it looks for me like you need to remove the seat and weld a bolt to
the bottom metal shield. I had the same problem, but successfully got away
with glueing existing bolt to the bottom with Poxilina. More info:

Of course, it was a provisional solution, which works already over a year...
:)

Cheers,
Yellow

Don't know if your seat is the same as the one that broke on my E34, but
I'd not risk any bodge - the seatbelt is attached to it. A new frame base
isn't that expensive, and is easy to fit.

Before you go replacing seats, get it looked at. A similar thing
happened in my E34, and I was going to replace the seat, but as it
turns out, it was just a seat adjustment cable that snapped. If the
seat is behaving as though half of it were paralyzed (right side moves
up and down but left stays, or vice versa) it may just be the seat
cable, and that is only about $100 to fix.

Hope this helps,
Alex

The frame on my E34 broke across the hinge for the height adjustment. But
a new frame was about 70 gbp and pretty easy to fit.
