Clean the inside of the throttle body along with IAC both in front of the throttle plate and behind the throttle plate, you can tilt with your fingers or pull on the accelerator cable. Everything should be spotless. If the Idle Air control (IAC) is dirty clean this too, if possible disconnect it and unbolt it from the the throttle body. Again spotless. The reason I suggest this is that the ECU calls on the IAC when the AC comes on to pick up the revs as the engine is now being presented with additional work in running the compressor. If the IAC passageways between the air duct and inlet manifold via the IAC valve or in anyway blocked this will reduce the ability for the engine to keep running and may stall

Procedure:
Read the blinking patterns of the DTCs. As examples, the blinking patterns for the normal system code and DTCs 11 and 31 are shown in the following diagram. The first blinking pattern indicates the first digit DTC. The second blinking pattern occurs after a 1.5-second pause. If there are two or more DTCs, there is a 2.5- second pause between each DTC. After all DTCs are shown, there is a 4.0-second pause, and they are all repeated.
HINT:
• If 2 or more malfunctions are found, the indication begins with the lowest numbered DTC.

2003 ford escape acts like it wants to stall when you accellerate

First question is always - is the check engine light on ?
Could be ignition or fuel problems such as spark plugs or coils, low fuel pressure or a failing sensor.

Just started having a rattling noise start up. Sounds like something may be loose. The odd thing is is that it doesn't start when I turn on the car, though if I idle or slow down enough it starts up,...

The 2.2 or 2200 four cylinder engine is bad for lifter rattle after the mileage gets up there, timing gears are also noisy in them.. I have had good luck using full synthetic oil, I would buy an engine oil flush kit with the next oil change and then use synthetic, If this noise isnt consistant with engine speed, then i would look at pumps and pulleys on the fron of the motor, sometimes AC pump clutches get squeeky and often rattle when disingaged, try turning the AC or defroster on and of to test for a change in the noise.

Unless you know it to be fresh, I think you may be about to lose the timing belt and that can be a disaster.
Please look at this link before you drive a whole lot more:
