I have a 2004 Toyota highlander leaking oil, oil light comes on. Could it be the rubber rings?

a 2004 toyota highlander V6

this should be your engine type
The 2GR-FE is a 3.5 L (3456 cc)

if leaks are that bad
always check the engine oil level before you drive off

fixing oil leaks on motors
degrease whole motor top and bottom

start with replacing the oil sender it may be the cause of the oil light coming on
after degrease
lay cardboard or paper under the car
take out for a drive and park over the paper over night

this pin points most of the oil leak locations
leaks from a V6 motor
rocker covers/ spark plug tube 0 rings.engine seals
cam seals
front and rear engine seals leak often
sump gasket can leak

if oil consumption or light on continues
can be a failing engine oil pump
or worn main bearings giving low oil pressure to the whole engine
you could be burning oil from worn piston rings
or hardened valve stems

a mechanic can fit an oil pressure gauge to the motor when hot
to check running oil pressure to confirm low oil pressure

if engine is worn out

it is possible to fit a lower mileage used motor to your highlander
its often cheaper than and engine rebuild

Oil leaks

i would check your filter gasket and your drain plug gasket, could also just be residual oil on the plastic pan under the engine, have you checked to see if the level is dropping?

Leaking oil Ford Freestar-was halfway between two lines on dipstick when I checked last week-puddle this evening and am down just past the bottom line-put in a quart but am worried to drive the car to

well it could be several things like pan plug seal cracked, oil pan leaking, rear main seal bad, front engine seal bad, head bolts not properly torqued, head could be cracked, but I would start with the oil pan drain plug seal and work from there.

Having an oil leak at the bottom of my camry, not the oil pan gasket what else could it be.

There are three other area's that can leak, here they are in order of how often they occur
1.Engine Valve cover gasket(s) (2 if V6 engine), oil runs down the engine and drips off the pan.
2.Rear crankshaft seal leaking
3.Front crankshaft seal leaking. Oil is blown back by air pressure while driving and rips off of pan.

SCREW OIL PAN DRAIN PLUG BACK IN PLACE DONT OVER TIGHTEN.THEN YOU REMOVE OIL FILTER USING OIL FILTER WRENCH BESURE MOVE DRAIN PAN TO CATCH OIL WHEN YOU REMOVE OIL FILTER.YOU NEED THE LARGE SOCKET OIL FILTER WRENCH USE A LONG 3/8 EXTENSION TO REMOVE OIL FILTER.WHEN OIL HAS DRAIN OUT AFTER REMOVING OIL FILTER WIPE OIL FILTER SEAL SURFACE WHERE OIL FILTER GOES TO WITH PAPER TOWEL.THEN YOU TAKE NEW OIL FILTER FILL IT WITH HALF OIL RUB OIL ON FILTER SEAL TO HELP IT SEAL BETTER.THEN YOU SCREW NEW OIL FILTER IN PLACE HAND TIGHT IT. Looking to change the oil on my V6 AWD 2004 SRX. Where is the drain plug and filter case located? What size wrenches are needed?

Locate the drain plug, size 13mm, drain the oil, replace drain plug. The oil filter is located by the dipstick. Replace filter put 5.6qtz of 5w-30 synthetic and you are good to go. and the oil filter is located to the right of the engine cover if your looking in at it. It looks like a small cast iron canister with a nut on top (its all molded together). unscrew the top of that and it is in there, the oil wrench come and can adjust to different size, I assume you never done an oil change and don't have any tools. go to any local auto parts store and tell them you need everything from oil, filter, removal tools, oil pan, funnel and they will give you everything you need ans some advice. when you put the filter back on, I would only do hand tighten. make sure you rub a bit of oil around the new rubber seal on your new filter using your figure. Buy the time you spend for all the tools what what need for oil change you will spend as much as having the pro do it, Oil change has been cheaper to change now day compair doing it your self. many places are offering 19.95 to 29.95 oil change, its worth all the hassle to let them do it. do the math, filter 6.00, 6qt of oil 27.00, tools 8.00, funnel 3.00, oil pan 12.00 right there is 56.00 buck plus you get to craw under the car and get dirty.

My Chevy 2002 Tahoe is leaking oil. They told me

this truck is equipped with an aluminum oil pan you could have 1 or several things going on... a stripped drain plug which is causing it to leak or it may be a leaking front seal or a rear main seal. If it is a front seal it is not to labor intensive. But if it is a rear main seal leaking it will require the transmission to be removed since the seal is a 1 piece rear main

Stripped out oil plug

You can have the oil pan re-tapped, which mean they can re-thread the oil pan for a slightly over sized oil pan plug. There are different size oil plug and just get one size slightly larger and have a shop re tap the oil pan for the larger oil plug and there you have it, good as new. keep in mind that I would make sure i use lots of grease on the tap tool to ensure i get most of the aluminum filling on the tap and not in the pan. Good luck and this should only cost you 1 hour of the shop rate or you can do it your self if you have to. You can loan out the tap tool from Auto Zone and pick up a larger oil pan plug there too. Be safe friend

Someone is trying to rip you off. If the drain plug is stripped, it can be replaced with a slightly larger plug simply by using a "tap" to re-thread the hole, and then put in a larger plug.
