I bought a 1997 Dodge 1500 4x4 5.9ltr from a guy last weekend. Test drove for about 5 minutes and it drove fine other than vibration when shifted to overdrive. Knucklehead said this was the driveshaft probably got warped and he did tell me that he had to put the vacuum lines back on transmission because they came loose. I bought the truck anyway and drove about 20 miles on the interstate and it lost drive power. Motor still running fine but would not move. I tried reverse and all forward gears, 4 wheel drive and 2 wheel drive but it wouldnt move. With the truck sitting still it would whine or kinda grind sound come from right behind the engine under the floor when I would shift from a gear back to park.I called the knucklehead I bought the truck from and described the problem and he said thats your problem and hung up.I had the truck towed to a friend who is a mechanic on 18 wheel diesel trucks. He started the truck yesterday and said it drove fine other than the vibration when shifts to overdrive. What could the problem be and does the vibration have anything to do with why the truck lost drive power? This is for my 16 yr old son and it was his money that bought the truck so I really need a solution. I am in the dog house with the wife over this. Thanks for your help, Keven

The vibration you feel is not the drive line but trans slipping and chattering.there are no vacume lines running to this trans but there is cooler lines that transport the fluid to and from the radiator for cooling purpose's.if the cooler lines have come off while driving most of the units fluid would be spilled on the ground in a matter of seconds and damage can very easily occur very rapidly you will most likely need to overhaul this trans to make it reliable once more.I recommend taking it to a ATRA or ATSG shop, they offer nation wide warranties.

I dont know how to fix the truck, but I can give you some advise on your situation... Take the truck back to the punk *** that sold it to you and get your money back. If he said that to you moments after you bought it, I would have gone back and MADE it his problem. This is why you are in the "dog house" with your wife. She wanted a Man for a husband, not someone who lets others walk all over them. This includes letting your wife walk all over you. Dont put up with it. Be curtious and tolerable, but let her know that you are the man of the house and you make desicions because you are not affraid to.

1997 toyota coroola dx automatic 214Kmiles. Gears not shifting correctly until car warms up.

Is this an automatic or manual transmission? When was the last time you changed the filter if it's an automatic? You may have a valve body problem too.

What does the MIL code "PO 320" mean, please?

code p0320 refers to cam shaft position (CKP) sensor/engine speed (RPM) sensor--circuit malfunction=== causes --wiring--CKP/RPM sensor ---ECM
because the engine runs ok until it is on cruise control I would be investigating the RPM sensor for a fault
The cruise control takes its control from the RPM sensor and if that circuit is interminable the the cruise control doesn't know what rpms to maintain.

Vehicle not shifting

Have you retrained the gear? From memory think goes motor running foot firmly on brake park to neutral three times, neutral to reserve three times, neutral to drive three times, keep going thru all gears Then drive car normal for ten minutes minium as you usually would.

Wont shift out of lower gear

First thing I need to ask is when the filter & Fluid was last changed. If recently, Did they replace old fluid with ATF4 from Mopar/chrysler? Chrysler transmissions are very temperamental, especially with any other transmission fluid running in them, even though many mechanics, transmission places etc, may argue with me, it is a known fact. First, disconnect your + battery connection for a couple of minutes, then reconnect, and try that to see if it helps. If not, and fluid & filter haven't been changed in a while, I'd spend the money & have it done, but using only Mopar ATF4 from a Chrysler dealer.
