Question about Daewoo Lanos

1 Answer

Hi, A problem with starting my Daewoo Lanos 1.6SX appeared a few days ago.Starting the car seems to be a matter of good luck now:sometimes it starts first/second time, sometimes it fails 10 times in a row.The battery is OK and IS trying to start it.It looks as if there is a problem with the ignition somewhere. But I have had the car checked incl. diagnostics and they did not find anything at all.I had to call the recovery service one morning as I could not get it start at all.The man cleaned the spark plugs, tried some cold start spray-nothing.Then he removed a fuel pump fuse and put it back in and the car started a few times in a row.... .... but failed to start again in a few minutes. I feel really helpless as I may get stuck anywhere any time.Any idea what it could be? If I take it to another garage, what shall I tell them? Could there be something wrong with the key ? Fuel pump? Any ideas will be much appreciated. Thanks a lot. Lucie

Nazdar Lucie,

I have also a Lanos, have the same problem. What I am trying now is to clean the distributor. Previous models (Daewoo Racer) had a problem with that. The metallic parts inside the distributor can be corroded, because there is water inside the box. Once you start it, it can evaporize the water, also make few scratches on the corrosion, then it can work normally. Or there is a problem with the pumping of the petrol inside the engine.
My problem is little bit complicated than that, as I have a hybrid LPG-petrol. Once it switches to the LPG, it works without any problem.

I hope it gives you some idea
Johnny

Daewoo Lanos 99 SX Man 2 days ago i started the car and drove off, leaving car would not start. tried kickstarting.Battery is gud What can the problem be, car in daily use.Engine turns does not start

A car only need 3 things to run...
FUEL
AIR
SPARK..
go down the list checking which one is there or not there.
If the car is spinning over.. than you should have air.
Check all the spark plug wires.. if they are good. try some starting fluid if it starts with the fluid.. you have a fuel problem. Filter or Pump or out of fuel.

Daewoo lanos cuts out while driving wont start only after some few minutes

Check your fuses for fuel pump and then your fuel filter and air filter. If these don't work you may have a problem with the Choke staying on. Good luck I hope this helps.

THE CAR HAS JUST STARTED TO TAKE LONGER TO START NO PROBLEM STARTING OR RUNNING

Most likely a tune up is needed to make this perform better upon starting. Being a 2002 spark plus and fuel filter should be changed if they haven;t been change the past few years. Mileage will not matter if this car is not driven very much. Fuel filters can get vey dirty restricting the fuel flow. Even check your air filter too. If you can not see the sunlight through it, its shot

Hi we live in lanzarote and are thinking of buying a second hand daewoo lanos with 49k on the clock privately owned not a hire car can anybody advise as to reliability of this model , much appreciated...

Few problems, check for noisy engine and uneven tyre wear, generally not a bad cheap car but they depreciate quicker than apple falling from a tree! So make sure it is a good deal.

Good luck davelee

Car only just going, hard to start, little power.

If the muffler is plugged the engine can't breath & can cause all sorts of drivability problems. The first step is ti repair the restricted exhaust system.Good luck,

Daewoo Lanos 1999 Not starting

Usually this is because the carburettor dries out and there is a needle and seat (internal on carby) that can get stuck and not let fuel in. Usually from a little dust water and general **** that comes with the fuel. Id spray the carby out with carby cleaner, remove the fuel line from it and spray out the fuel bowl. Possibly even open up the carby and completely clean it, but only if you are confident on putting it back together. But try just spraying it and cleaning it first, then tip probably a quarter (1/4) of a cup of petrol in the hole in the carby and try starting it, this should make it run. Maybe a little rough at first, but you may need to clean the carby a couple of times, and will need to pump fresh fuel from the tank. So good luck and hope it helps.
