A lot of times the latch will become very dry or rusty. Try spraying it wd40 or some lube and work latch a few times and get it worked in. If the latch has a plastic covering it can come apart and cause the latch to require more effort to release.

Rear hatch won't open.how can i fix this

The following advice is not a joke. I am very serious:

Place a towel on a spot over the lock catch. Now, with the ''ball'' of your hand (face of your hand just above the wrist), _bang_ as hard as you can without denting the metal. Do this about three times, quick and hard as possible (Bang! Bang! Bang!). Then try opening the hatch. This usually works very well. And it also works on stuck hoods. If it doesn't work, try it again a few times. It is now Winter and a ''Summer Bang'' will obviously work much easier. (Good luck)

I am needing to put on an entire back hatch with window back on 2002 Mercury Mountaineer. I was hit in the rear and it broke my rear window and dented and banged up the entire back end. I have bought the...

Does the hatch open up electrically??? If not, then just take off the hinge bolts and struts, hold the new door in place, re install the bolts ( without tightening them completely) and then shut the door and see where it has to be adjusted correctly to close easily. Then you can tighten the bolts tightly and re install the struts. You will need at least 3 people to help.

Driver side Hatch will not release. Passenger side opens.

At the center of the rear door is a actuator that has rods that go to both side and the clip felloff/broke on the Driver(left)side if it has a handel on the inside if you take that apart you can then pull the inside skin back far enough to pull the rod with a pliers and open the door and then make the repairs

Back Hatch wont latch in closed position.

Have you tried spraying with penetrating spray (WD-40 for example) and make sure the lever on the hatch part is open? If you look at the latch itself on the hatch, there should be an open notch like spot where it lines up with the striker at the bottom. After spraying it well, in behind, all around as many angles as you can with the little nozzle of spray can, try using a screwdriver and move the little armlike part that swings down to close that latch. It should snap over the slot to close the hole. Then pull the handle & see if it snaps back out of the way. Keep working that back & forth a few times, then try to close it again. Your lock on your hatch may be holding it too, but lets see how you make out with this first. Let me know what you find.

The back hatch won't open anymore

inside the truck box there are two bolts that hold the tail light in. Remove these bolts and the entire tail light assembly coems out. If you have a bed liner you will have to remove it first to get to the bolts

Elantra Backdoor shuts closed and does not stay open.

replace the hatch struts. I'm assuming you're talking about the back hatch. There should be 1 or 2 struts (look like shock asborbers), they've probably gone bad.
