Question about 2005 Ford Expedition

I am very upset about my 2005 Ford Expedition. I have loved this vehicle. I was driving on the highway and noticed a few strange things mainly, the cruise control stopped working and seemed like the fuel levels were going down faster than usual. So I pulled into a service center along the highway and then things got worse. the engine started to smell, and then it wouldnt start up again. I had the truck towed to a local garage and then later was told the engine has seized and it will need a new or rebuilt engine put in. Needless to say I am very upset with this as the vehicle is not that old and I have taken it in to Ford dealer for all its maintenance visits, took great care of it. All the oil levels and quality were fine. The mechanic is telling me he cannot figure out what caused the engine to seize like this. As a note, about 2 months ago I needed to have a tensioner replaced that spins and guides the serpentine belt. Could this have anything to do with the engine seizing a few months later perhaps if if was not installed correctly? I am a little bit skeptical because it happens to be the same mechanic that replaced my tensioner that is looking at my engine now, so mabye he wouldnt admit that it was his fault if this is the case. I just dont know what to do about this. Any help you can give me would be great! thanks!

The problem you describe sounds like an oil pump failure. This would not be related to the serpentine belt, but there should have been an indication on the dash of low oil pressure. I have never seen an oil pump fail after only 5 years, but I don't know how the mechanic could have caused it to fail.

I had same problem with my 2005 Expedition. The solution for mine turned out to be a dirty throttle body. Cleaned the inside of it with rag and carb. cleaner so that the throttle plate wouldn't bind and no more problem.

the rpms drop because you are adding more of a load to it. it should level out after a few seconds.

Your vehicle has a thermastatically controlled fan so by driving it for 45 minutes it probably reached the preset temperature and the radiator cooling fan engaged. My advice would be to get adequainted with your new vehicle and check things over closely. Check all fluid levels and make sure that the levels are correct.
You might also want to find a Ford Taurus forum on the internet and read comments posted by other owners of your year vehicle to get little tips on the do's and don'ts associated with your vehicle.

This sounds like an error with the chips in the keys. Do you keep two keys on the keyring for the car? Some Ford vehicles will act strangely if they see two keys with chips near the key cylinder. Also, does this car have a remote starter? If so, the installer may have set up the bypass module incorrectly.

Could be a number of things. Get it to a place that can read the codes from the vehicle's computer. Local autoparts stores usually do this for free. It may or may not give you a clue as to what's wrong.

Go to Autozone if the vehicle will run. Have them test the computer for codes. If not running, the TPS, Throttle Position Sensor is easy to change.
You would take off all the air filter ductwork up to the metal part on the engine. There is one big butterfly valve on this part. The TPS screws onto the metal airhorn and has 2 screws and 1 electric plug and is on the drivers side of the metal part. It is about the size of a cigarette lighter. The part slips over the slot of the butterfly shaft. Just be sure everything lines up. It is usually correct when installed.
There is some adjustment possible, but write us again for those instructions. You really should be okay the way it is. Let us know how this worked for you.
