1998 Windstar ABS/Traction control problem HELP HELP

I have a 1998 Ford Windstar with ABS and Traction Control. This morning the
ABS light and Traction Control light start blinking at me - brake fluid
level and pressure are good, fuses are good - any ideas on what the heck it
is before I spend way too much for someone else to track it down?

-   My ABS light does not come on, but the traction off light blinks MOST of the time....sometimes it goes off. What is going on here?-   kmolloy

-   I, too have a 2000 windstar ses that the traction light and abs light comes on when driving. The traction grinds when turning and shuts down the transmission almost to a stop. Had new brakes put on in January and a new traction unit put on this month and still doing it. When I turn traction off, the abs light will not come on. Very annoying and very costly. -   karneu2

It's a problem with the ABS. Beyond that, that's what the technicians
are paid for. Come on, they spend $700-$900-$1500 for scan tools, the
least you could do is subsidize them for a measly $70 an hour. :-)

Honestly though, if the light comes on immediately after you start the
engine, then it's probably a controller problem. If the light comes on
after you start rolling, then it's probably a sensor problem. If the
light comes on when the system does its normal self-test (usually after
the first time you go more than 2-3mph driving forwards) then it's
probably a motor or controller problem. This obviously can only help
you figure out what general area the problem *might* be in, but I can't
see your van very easily from here.

Good afternoon, I have a 1996 Ford Windstar GL with a 3.8L engine & 172,000 miles. I resently purchased this vehicle and have been working out the small kinks. What I can not get resolved is the idle whenever the air conditioning compressor is on and when I come to a stop, it sort of kicks(jolts) as it slows down. I hope I have given you enough to understand what is going on...Thank You! Brad

I too have the same problem with one of my two windstars. I got my front brakes done after it started acting out, then got the rear brakes done. 2 days later the brakes are grabbing big time with a clunking noise whenever I brake, and my ABS and traction control lights are on and off infrequently. Never had this problem with our other windstar, only this one. Elli

We have the same van with the same problem. If I accelerate in tight turn it feels like Im leaving parts of the suspension behind because the trans shuts down. Wierd to say the least. I understand if Melissa can find a person with a OBD2 set up, they can got right to the problem. Ill keep you posted as to what I find. Good luck. M
