Hi! This will surely need diagnostic to know the fault code. From there we can start the fixing. But as a first course of action please try this... Open the hood and remove the positive battery connector and let it sit for atleast 5mins. This will reset the system somehow but if no luck on removing the battery connector, I strongly suggest that you have the car diagnosed to know the fault code. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FixYa!

Yes, autozone has a device to check this out.

A scan tool will really be helpful for us to know why the engine light is on. I strongly suggest that you have it scanned. It's hard to guess without a scan tool.

2006 BMW 750 Li My dynamic drive inactive light came on, then a generator fault light came on

BMW has been using electronically controlled automatic transmissions in most models since the late 80s. These transmission systems employ a transmission control unit which controls electrical solenoids to manipulate the various control and shift valves and functions in the transmission valve body. When the transmission control unit detects a problem that it thinks could be damaging to the transmission or engine, it goes into a fail-safe or limp mode. In this mode, the transmission will function in reverse normally, but in forward it will operate in only one gear (whether you have the shifter in D, or any of the lower gears). This will typically be 3rd or 4th gear, depending on the model. It will start in this gear and stay in this gear with no shifting. You would experience this as sluggish acceleration and higher than normal engine speed at about 40 mph and above.

If you must drive the vehicle when the transmission is in the fail safe mode, accelerate gently and keep the road speed lower than full highway speed.

Earlier models do not employ fault codes and must be diagnosed manually. Late models do employ fault codes and a diagnostic/scan machine can be used to check and read the faults to assist in diagnostics. Note that this is not your common OBDII engine management fault code tool. This is what A BMW dealer or a properly equipped independent shop would have for full vehicle system diagnostics and coding operations.

P0303 ignition misfire on cylinder #3.
Possible Causes:

1.Fuel injectors, related wiring, sensors, computer issues
2. Running out of gas, or poor fuel quality
3. Evaporative emissions system (EVAP) concerns: fuel vapors leaking into engine
4. Incorrect Fuel Pressure
5. EGR system concerns: leaking EGR valve or restricted ports
6.Base engine concerns: low compression, valve train problems and timing issues
7. Ignition system concerns including, but not limited to:
Faulty spark plugs
Faulty coil or related wiring

Ignition related sensor faults or wiring issues

You will have diagnose each element until you find root cause.
And it could be more than one element faulting out.

Engine ckeck light turns on even running by octane.

engine lights are there to let you know that the parameters for safe engine / gear box operation have been exceeded and you need to check oil levels , coolant levels , drive belts and temperature range .. Run fault codes to detect which sensors raised the alarms.

Why does the engine light appear while driving, and after switching off the engine and restart it is gone and after some time it re appears? Toyota Quantum 2.5 diesel!

The engine light is there to tell you that the CPU has found sensors that are outside the set parameters for safe operation of the engine and gear box. You should run the fault codes asap and rectify the fault . It will then be necessary to use the fault code reader to reset the CPU

My check engine light came on today. i hear nothing unusual in the engine. is it safe to drive from charleston, sc to Knoxville TN tomorrow?

If the check engine light is blinking, you should get it looked at before making any long trips. It probably would be a good idea to have the car scanned to find out what the fault is. One common reason for the light to come on is a loose gas cap.

Fault in Automatic Gearbox and Check Engine Light

If the transmission is still operating ok, you can drive it, but you need to get it checked, since a fault has been detected by the transmission computer.
