Where is the trans fill plug on a 1996 dodge avenger

I helped a mechanic, once,to change a transmission mount(?) and in the process he pointed at a plug on the side of the transmission and he said it was where you fill up with fluid (oil or transmission fluid, depends what it uses) you start filling and as you do, you check level by sticking your finger in the hole and stop filling when you feel the tip of your finger get wet.... Good luck and wash your finger afterwards!!!!!

How do I check the transmission fluid on a 1996 neon 5 speed

On a 5 speed manual transmission. On the Left side of the trans-axle, Half way Up you will find the filler plug. Remove the plug. You can check with your finger. If you can not touch the lube oil you need to fill it.

Does a 5 speed manuel transmission use transmisson fluid and where is the dip stick to check the fluid?

Manual transmissions use gear oil, not automatic transmission fluid.
There will be a filler plug on the side of the gearbox. The gear oil should be filled up to the very bottom of the filler plug hole.

Location of drain plug, fill plug and correct oil level plug for 5 speed manual transmission

I don't know if there is a fill plug. I just use the level plug located on driver's side right above the inner CV joint of the half-shaft (axle) to fill it. A piece of flexible tubing connected to a funnel works well. The drain plug is fairly near the center of the bottom of the gearbox housing (behind the bell housing). The level plug has a 24mm, fairly flat, hex head, and the drain plug is a recessed plug with a 3/8" (?) square hole (for a socket handle).

Replaced the transmission pan...how do i refill it?

I think this model has a 4t40e trans. The fill is a cap Near the top of the bell housing. It is a red screw cap that says trans fill on it. There is a plug just above the lip of the bottom pan gasket near the passenger cv shaft. Remove the plug and fill the trans until oil runs from the plug hole. Now start the car and continue to fill until oil runs from the plug again. When the trans oil is running out with the engine running it is full. Reinstall the plug.
