I looked at the starting/charging schematic and found the following:

There is a 10A Crank Fuse in the I/P Fuse Block.
There is a Start Motor Theft Deterrant Relay with YEL/BLK wire and YEL, PPL, and RED wire
There is a theft deterrant module with YEL/BLK wire.
There is an ignition switch, which you replaced, already.

I think the theft deterrant module is giving you problems
I could find no data on how the theft deterrant module can be programmed with the new key.
May have to go to dealer to have the new ignition key programmed to the computer or the theft deterrant module.

Good luck on this repair.

My 2001 Chrysler pt cruiser will not start we have replaced the ecm ignition coil thermostat battery and low fan relay it doesnt even really roll over its kinda a quieter ticking when you turn the key im...

Have you tested the battery? You may have a bad starter solinoid.
Or a relay from ignition to the starter solinoid. And or bad connections to starter solinoid. The solinoid can be tested if the
battery is good, by a jumper from positive to the small terminal that controls the internals of the solinoid.

Nothing happens when turn key. 1984 ford f150 inline 6

Check the small wires to the starter relay for power when the key is turned to start. The small wires activate the relay. If the small wires have power, most likely the relay is bad.

You can bypass the relay with heavy jumpers. Make sure stickshift is in neutral or Park if its an automatic. If starter turns good with jumper, relay is bad.

The starter is gud and strong but it keeps turning the engine over and the key is in my hand out of the ignition

You've got a short or the ignition switch is faulty. Run your hand over any power wire to see if you have any hot spots. This is where the short is. Also the starter may be good but the starter solinoid may be shorting in which case change the solinoid. Good luck!

I have changed the starter solinoid and now i dont

Make sure the starter relay is working properly. Check to see if you are getting power at the relay + cable. Then check to see if you are getting power from the relay to the starter, you may have to turn on the ignition or get someone to turn the switch over in start position. If you're getting power here, then your problem is elsewhere. Are you getting the car to start or just no electrical such as lights and etc?

i would check for power and ground at the security module with the key on and off uasully the ignition electrical swicth causes this problem but it can also be the security module also if that module is missing a power wire it will turn the light on and give you this problem hope this helps thunderboltz.

1995 nissan maxima doesnt start when cold, just clicks, and after trying for 5 to 10 minutes it finally starts... Please help me out...

it is one of two things.
  • the starter is either worn and brushes not making contact or an engine oil leak onto the starter. thus keeping the brushes from making contact you can check this by banging on the starter while someone trys turning the ignition back and forth to start.(making the click click click)

  • ignition switch is weak, not providing enough voltage from the to kick the soliniod all the way to start the starter

The way to check that is to hot wire the starter soliniod little wire, to battery voltage. (the big cable on the solinoid)
If it turns over good, then you can either replace the ignition switch or install a relay someware near the starter to supply it with propper current to kick the solinoid all the way to engage the motor.
The relay acts as a remote starter switch that feeds more direct power to the starter solinoid. Now the only thing the ignition switch is responsible for, is trigger the relay.

Need wiring diagram

Go to and register they have good wiring diagrams for your truck. What I saw was all the relays going to ground so you should have 12V coming off the ignition switch.
