My Malibu has operated fairly well since I purchased it. The problem that has started may have to do with the fuel pump. It makes a constant whine when on and can be heard cleary when in the back seat or outside the vehicle. I took the car in to a mechanic and he said that the noise could be the fuel pump. The confusion I am having is that I just seen an identical Malibu this evening and it was making the same noise. Is this a normal sound? Or is this a possible manufacturing defect? Thanks so much!
I had the same problem when I got my 2003 Malibuthe fuel pump was replaced before I tool delivery of the vehicle. Sounded like I had Budda in the trunk.

The noise is your fuel pump...And its getting more common on GMsIf you have any worries just have your mechanic check your fuel pressure...But the noise is a common thing Steve C

Had a Grand Am that exhibited the same noise --- for about 2 months until the pump packed up altogether. Do yourself a favour, get it replaced before you HAVE to.
