Question about 1995 Volkswagen GTI

1 Answer

I have a VW Golf mk3 1995 GTI 16V but it has a weird iddleing whenever I have just started it. When I press the gas pedal more and increase the revs, it gets well. Otherwise if I happen to drive straight away away when I have just started it, it will kind of stall a bit( as if its lacking fuel or air), then after a few minutes of driving it gets well. At times I can even smell the fuel. Any help will be appreciated

Thats because the car is not at operating temperature.you will get a slight drop in power and drivability until its warm.do not try to use any more than 1/3rd gas pedal until its warm anyway.your car has an automatic cold start device (choke)that operates when the car is cold.

Hello James,

If the engine revs up with no increase in speed, your clutch is slipping. Probably the reason the car was sold!

Cruise control and throttle pedal go to a butterfly aperature on throttle body.  Look in the engine compartment and while someone pushs on gas pedal.   Look at the area where the cable comes out and goes around a semicircular widget (throttle body butterfly).  Cruise control has another cable that joins this same plate. Check for slack in cable, clear cable path,  and look for anything in that area that might be broken or routed wrong.
good luck
