My 1997 buick lesabre has an innermitant starting problem. turn key to start get no response, not a click or anything. security light stays on. after turning key for 5 or ten minutes will finally start. battery is ok.

The warning light means the computer is not accepting the chip in the key as being the right key. Could be a problem with the key or the sensor in the lock cylinder, or the anti-theft system.

you're anti theft was tripped, try disconnecting the battery for 5-10 minutes, reconnect an cycle the key 3 times on an off, this should reset the computer an allow your vehicle to start

Very common problem on GM vehicles. The security system fails and won't recognize the key anymore. You can bypass these systems now and eliminate them entirely.

could be the battery, but it sounds like a solenoid problem

the ingnition switch has a wire broken that wont allow the computer to turn the security system off to let the car start

My wife has a 96 we had a similar problem. I believe that the connectors on the chip that is in the ignition key are worn out. The manual said that it is a safety feature on the car if someone tries to use a different key in the ignition or tries to punch it, it disables the car for like 3 minutes. We had a spare ignition key and switched to that and haven't had the problem since. Hope that solves your problem.

You might want to have your ignition swith replace. It could be bad wiring
