There is a small rubber plug you remove in the backing plate, near the middle heightwise, and near the front. This is where shoes wear the most. compare the thickness of the friction material with the metal backing. When the metal backing is the thicker of the 2, replace the shoes.

Just jack the car us, on jackstands, remove the wheels, release the shoes from rubbing with the adjuster, and then the drum will pull right off. If the center is rusty, a little WD40 and banging with hammer does the job.

Remove rear wheel and pull of drum ( make sure emergency brake is off).
Purchase 1 year subscription at ALLDATA .com and you'll have ALL info on your truck for a year. Well worth it. You will need some brake tools, local parts store will have them. Rear Brakes will take you to the brink of insanity and cause blood lose without the tools

if the bulbs are good then you may want to check for power at the bulb sockets. the circuit boards on the brake light housing goes bad and looks for ground on an adjacent circuit.
