Leave A/C off and check to see if radiator fan is coming on when engine is hot. If not, troubleshoot fan and fan circuit. See my tips at http://www.fixya.com/cars/r5929960-s_thermostat

This may be a fan issue. If it has an electric fan ac forces the fan to come on. The fan may not be coming on during non ac operation.Would verify that fan is operational under non ac conditions..

Check to make sure the cooling fan is kicking on it is mounted to the back of the radiator once the car gets up to temp it should kick on to coll the radiator when you are sitting in traffic on some cars if you turn the ac on the computer will automatically switch the cooling fan on

My Jimmy 1995 Overheat whith A/C On

Is it idicating an actual overheat or is it just running warmer than usual? Do you have a guage or a light? Most vehicles WILLrun hotter with the AC on because the AC condensor is directly infront of the radiator. Some have an auxiliary fan for this. If you do make sure it is running. Start and get the engine up to running temp. With the hood open peek in to see if you have one or two cooling fans. Watch with the AC on that Both are running in cycles.

Fans not turning on unless the sensor is unplugged both come on. turn on the ac one comes on.

Check the two relays in the fuse block under the hood. One is forthe primary and the other your secondary fan. Turn on your AC unit both fans should come on. If not replace the relay. Also you have two temparture sensors that could be faulty.

2002 Chevrolet Impala overheating while idling

the thermostates on the 3400 engines are late because the fans kick in at the last moment. if you run your ac on you will notice that the gauge stays in front of the half mark or right on the half mark. that is because when you turn on your ac your fans will kick in earlier and stay on the whole time the ac is on. if you run your car with the heat on or nothing on that leaves the late thermostate to kick in verus you turning on your ac and it by passes the thermostates and runs the fans once the engine gets at at lest 120 deg. i use to have a 2002 and i had the same problem. this will keep your engine cooler. also if you don't want your air on just turn on your windshield defrosters (not the back windshield) and that helps keep your engine cool because your defrosters use your air compressor which is really your ac. so it still kicks the fans on earlier.
