Since the problem appears only there then the fault is in the tail light unit. Do a proper testing: connect one lead of a multimeter directly to a bare metal part of the body and the other at the connector for the position bulb. Now use the voltage section to test that the  power reaches the bulb - if it doesn't then check the wiring from the bulb to the rear harness, its wire is cut somewhere in between. If power is coming then use the resistance section to check the ground wire - if it isn't 0 then the wire is cut and must be fixed.
If the wiring is good then the bulb doesn't touches the contacts - move it around or replace it.

Please check the wiring. The connector may have come off due to driving over a rough patch.

Try changing the bulb first and clean and examine the contacts in the bulb socket.

There are usually 2 filaments in the bulb; one for brakes, one for running lights. If high mount brake lamp and passenger brake lamp light up, it's either the bulb or the socket or the wire to the splice.

check the ground if a black wire on the socket. Get a voltmeter and check for 12 volts from each socket terminal to ground.

lamp outage is just to let you know if a bulb is not working. Did it indicate a burned bulb?

My left brake tail light doesnt work. It works only when my lights are off, but when my lights are on and I hit the brakes... it doesnt function. Ive taled to the dealership about this and they said I need...

They are right. The bulb has 2 filaments. One for the brake and one for the running light. One of the filaments has burned out. You only need to replace the bulb. The bulbs are inexpensive. It's just a maintainence thing. Not to worry all light bulbs burn out eventually. It's an easy fix.

Many Grand Cherokees have had this type of issue. The thread is lengthy, but does cover just about every type of issue known with the tail/brake lights.

Replace the Transmissions Control Module (TCM) that mounts on the driver's side firewall. I have had to do this twice with mine. Glad the TCM was under warranty.

Tail lights 99 jeep grand cherroke limited

have you checked the bulb sockets to see if they are burnt or corroded sometime i see that the plastic melts around the contacts where the socket twists into the housing. if your lucky you might get away with replacing just the socket for the brake/running light bulb. but if it is too melted your most likely going to need a new housing
