2000 Intrigue blower motor problem

By Pasty - usenet poster

My 2000 Intrigue blower moter started making a funny noise over the weekend
during a long trip. It was hot and the air condotioning was on all the
time. After the blower motor started speeding up and slowing down we
noticed that the carpet on the front passengers side of the car was soaked
with water. On Sunday I took the cover off to expose the motor and found
that the lower part of the motor was full of water. There is a rubber tube
coming from the blower down to the bottom of the motor, I assume to cool the
motor. This is were the water is coming from. The tube blows air normally
but when there is condensation from the air conditioner it lets water get
down into the blower motor. Has anyone else run into this problem? Does
Oldsmobile have a fix for it? I drained 1.5 quarts of water from the tube
on Sunday morning. Any help is appreciated.
Thanks,
Stan

Same Problem

Dec 14, 2008

-   I have a 97 Intrigue and I have the same water problem but mine is when it rains, or snows and it melts. Water is somehow draining into my passenger side floorboard. I have no idea how to fix this but in addition to that, my air conditioner and heater have started making a very loud and troubelsom noise. Just a couple of days ago my heat and air stoped working. I have no heat or air. I think the two are related but can't be sure till I get the car into the shop. But that's going to have to be after the holidays. I'm starting to think the car is ****. -   hatemycar

-   Interesting scenario. And thanks for the post. I noticed this summer that my pass.side carpet was soaked one day. Now that Autumn has arrived, my passenger side does not blow heat. Could the two scenarios be related? is the blower moter pooched? Thanks...-   stg068

The problem is the dasket under the hood (passenger side) above the heater air filter has probably fallen off, and is allowing water to get inside the heater air inlet and down onto the motor. If it hasn't allready, the motor will make loud noises before eventua;;y stoppping. You can access the motor by removing the decorative panel under the dash. It is a little tough to get at, but can be done. 3 bolts hold the motor on, and there is a rubber strap holding the rubber air tube to the side of the motor. Make sure that is removed before removing motor. Depending on where youbuy your motor, you may have to splice the fan wires. Be careful not to dislodge the connector while splicing, if will prevent the motor from working.

I had the same problem. Open the hood. On the passenger side of the car, remove the plastic grille that lays across the bottom of the windshield. Beneath this grille is your fresh air filter. Note after it's out that if you poured water on your windshield it would FLOOD RIGHT ON TOP OF YOUR BLOWER MOTOR. What normally prevents this? That very thin, now worn, possibly cracked rubber gasket that goes on to the upper edge of that plastic grille. Clean the grille with soap and water. Dry thoroughly, re-attach the gasket with 3M weatherstrip adhesive. Then apply black RTV gasket sealer in a thick bead just below this and reinstall. Now you've sealed off the top edge of the grille and prevented MASSIVE amount of water from landing on top of your fresh air intake. R.W.

No, this tube is inside the cabin and goes from a nipple on the bottom of
the fan shroud down and into a hole in the side of the blower motor. It
blows air through the tube when it is working normally. I assume it is to
cool the fan blower motor. I will look into the cabin filter as a
possibility. Thanks for the input.

Where would that filter be located? I don't know if I have one or not. I
just purchased my 2000 Intrigue GL used. It's pretty loaded, though...

That tube is to drip the condensed water outside. It's probably
clogged and all you need to do is to unclog it.

And if you have a cabin air filter, it's past due for a replacement.
