Question about 1999 Saab 9-5
Check the oil pressure; did you drop the sump on the new engine to see if it was clean of sludge? If not; you need to do it asap to see what it looks like in there. If it is sludge or the screen is clogging it will do damage to that engine as well. If not already installed you should have the PCV Upgrade # 6 installed. How did the other engine die?

Well to start, the blinking check engine light means it has a catalyst damaging misfire. is it a 4 cyl or v-6? possible ignition cassette failure. all the smoke and turbo issue could be faulty turbo.
