Abs makes my brakes malfuntion but brakes work fine with abs fuse pulled

Most of the time this is caused by a. bad or defective wheel sensor sometimes the wheel sensors can be cleaned also check the wheel sensor electrical connectors for corrosion. If you have access to an abs scan tool have an assistant look at the wheel speeds of each wheel while slowing down if one goes to zero while others are around 10 mph that is the defective or dirty sensor most times the sensor will need to be replaced Some sensors are a part of the bearing assembly so the bearing will require replacing

GM has had an issue with rust building up on the on the abs sensor mounting surface located on the bearing. This rust build up causes an increase in the air gap between the sensor and the exciter ring. What can be done is to remove those abs sensors on the front wheels and clean the surfaces of the abs sensors be sure to cover the holes that the sensors go in to avoid particulates from getting inside the hub bearing once the area is cleaned you can apply a small amount of grease on the mounting surface then reinstall the sensors. Several vehicles with this issue have been corrected in this manner.

Abs activates just before truck stops (2005 chevy silverado) wheels not skidding, assuming a wheel sensor is bad, how do find out which one, or is the problem in the abs computer, abs light does not come...

This is a condition known as over active ABS. GM has a technical service bulletin for this. Basically what it say is to remove the front wheel speed sensors from the hubs, clean the mating surface between the sensor and the hub, apply some di-electric grease over the cleaned area, and reinstall the sensor.

You can try this on the front sensors and see if the problem goes away. I will warn you that you need to be very careful removing the sensor from the hub as they can break off. If it breaks off in the hub you will need to replace the hub and bearing.

You can also check to see if one of the front wheel bearings is loose. with the tire off the ground grab the tire at the 12 and 6 position and push/pull. if the wheel moves and you can see the rotor moving also than the wheel bearing may be sloppy enough for internal exciter ring to get an excessive gap from the abs sensor.

The easiest thing to do is look at wheel speed data on a higher end scan tool. When the symptom happens you will see the wheel speed drop out. Whatever wheel drops out is the wheel that needs to be checked.

Hope that helps.

2005 chevy silverado abs problem light stays on

Check the fuses.I know that there was a recall for the ABS senser, but not sure what years are covered.Check with the dealer service Dept. The just clean the sensor and there is no charge. Not sure if this could cause your issue.I had this done on a 02 and a 04.They also replaced the tail gate cables for free.

Truck not stoping and anti brake is working.

dosen't stop at all or just slow?, if the abs is working then you should feel the pulseing in the brake pedal just before tire lock-up, the tires will not lock-up with abs fully funtioning unless all four tires or two are in lock-up depending on the abs application, if abs fails it reverts it self to regular braking ability, hope this helps

03 Chevy 2500HD Service Brake System Warning

When you replaced the ABS sensor on the hub, did you clean and re-gap the sensor to the speed ring on the hub. There was a recall on the ABS Malfunction on your truck. The tire size don't make a difference to your ABS as long as all four tires are the size, There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. Abs comes on at low speed on dry roads 2004 silverado 4x4 right frount only

One of the sensors has gone bad and needs to be replaced, the other thing to that would also do that is the ABS sensor is dirty or needs to be re gaped to the speed ring on the hub. There was a issue bulletin with your Tahoe on the ABS activating under 8 km/h. Good luck and hope this helps, if not clean out the sensor with brake parts cleaner and check the wire harness and ABS sensor bracket. Re gap the sensor to the speed ring hub. Here is the bulletin. YOUR ABS KICKS IN right before you stop? you have a wheel speed sensor dropping out at low speeds this is causing the abs unit to think one wheel is locking up activating system. need to have a scan tool on it to see which one is dropping out
