Whenever I encounter an engine that's missing oil I always start with the basics. First I take a good look underneath and check for any drips, no matter how small, as a leaky sending unit, oil filter, or cooler line won't leak once the engine is off. If you can park on the same spot, preferably over a clean piece of cardboard, it makes it a lot easier to spot any drips. If no drips are present then I change engine oil and filter using a top grade oil and fill the level to exactly the full mark on the dipstick. I do this because most engines will burn oil if the oil is dirty and old enough. At that point I check the oil every 100 miles or so [after the engine has been off for a few minutes] and see how long it takes before the engine is a quart low or down to the "Add" mark. Once you have this information then you can decide what or if you need to do anything. As for what's normal oil consumption? Most vehicles won't use a quart in a 3,000 mile service interval but I've seen new vehicles that take a quart every 1000 miles or so, thus there's really no good solid answer although I think a quart per thousand is excessive...but often expensive to fix if it's actually burning it. Hope this helps and good luck!

Loosing motor oil

If you know for a fact the crankcase is full, and you are loosing oil, and there are no external leaks, the engine is burning it.
In your case it could be from the engine not having a chance to warm up. Or the rings and valve seals could be getting weak.

2002 BLAZER WHEN STARTING VEHICLE OIL PRESSURE GAUGE READS HIGH, KNOCKING COMING FROM ENGINE, WHEN ACCELERATING IT GETS FASTER & FEELS LIKE LOOSING POWER WHEN DECELERATING

Bang on the catalytic converter being careful not to get burnt and see if it's loose causing a rattle. Until you determind what the problem is don't drive the vehicle. The other possibility is that you may need an engine. If what you're hearing us a connecting rid knock.

On a hyundai tiburon how do i know if the oil pressure is bad

If you have low oil pressure you should have a waring light or message, the engine will become noisy and if it is not repaired very soon you will here first a loud tapping noise then a loud knocking deep in the engine, and finally the engine will worst case blow up and parts may come out the bottom through the oil pan. Never drive any car that shows a low oil pressure warning light or message, stop the engine right away and have it checked by a shop.

My 05 equinox is using oil but don't see oil on surfaces where parked &no oil on engine where is it going

If you don't see any oil under or on the outside of the engine then it has to be burning it thru the exhuast due to worn piston rings or piston rings that have'nt seated yet.

My check engine light is on for my 2005 mini cooper s...what could b the problem? oil change 3400km just the other day the yellow light with the triangle that has an exclamation mark in the middle and a...

The "Check Engine Light" could be something major, or something as minor as a loose
gasoline filler cap. The only way to know is to find someone who can attach an OBD-II code reader
to your car's ODB-II computer port and talk to your car's on-board computer, and ask it what it thinks
is wrong.
Also, the "Yellow light with the triangle that has an exclamation mark in the middle and a circle going around" could be the SES light (Service Engine Soon), which could mean that everything is fine with the car, except the SES light needed to be reset at the 3400Km oil change, but it wasn't.
In the U.S., Pep Boys and Advance Auto Parts are national parts store chains that will read the ODB-II codes setting your "Check Engine" light free - don't know who will do this free in Canada/U.K., though.

Need to know how the rear main seals go on a 200 Dodge caraven 2.4

you have a lion by the tail but i will tell you how.

1 drain your oil completely

2 un bolt the oil pan there are a lot of small bolts in the oil pan

3 un bolt the rear main barring that is the one next to the transmission
when you get the barring down don't touch the barring with your hands
now look Ware you took the barring down from you will see the
rear main seal remove the old and install the new once that is done
you need to put the barring back in with the bolts snug them up now
you need a torque wrench the bolts need to be torqued down to
30 ft.lbs each make sure the motor is clean from the old gaskets
and the oil pan use (permatex)(black) on both sides of the gaskets
4 reinstall the oil pan fill with oil and start your engine let it run for 10
min and let the gasket setup

hope this helps you

My engine make a sound like there is no oil in the car but after a few minutes it stops. Do i need a heavier oil

No, check the oil level and you can add Lucas engine oil additive. The Lucas oil will add fluid retention to your oil and will keep the piston slap to a minimal. It's common on newer cars with high tolerance engines like yours, and if the engine was not warmed up prior to driving it hard will cause the engine to have piston slap much worst throughout it's life. You can do a search on GM piston slap problems to give you some more information to the noise your describing. There are a few things that can help, add Restor engine oil additives and Lucas engine oil to your regular engine oil service maintenance time. This will help with the waring up the engine before you go for your drive, good rule is the engine is warm enough when you start getting some heat from the heater. Good luck and keep me posted, be glad to know this helps your Saturn. It has for many on here with the same problem.

What is the icon's mean on the dash board, when climbing on a hill there's a red light on, but going down it turns off. it looks like there's is over heating or something, please help max'd 07

It depends on what warning light is on!
In any case, from your description and experience, it would be your engine 'Oil' warning light: it comes on when there is not enough lubrication (thus the overheating) flowing because of low oil pressure: immediately check your oil leveland top up as required) and make sure that change your oil and oil filter as soon as possible as it is a very damaging condition and the engine could seize.
Hope it helps: let me know hoe you go.
