Any one have any experience with a Ford Excursion - good or bad. I'm about to order a 2001 Excursion Limited with the 6.8 liter V-10 and a 4.3 rear. Any opinions on the telescopic trailer tow mirrors?
I tow a 27' Wildwood TT - net weight 5,200 lbs, maximum weight 7,500 lbs.
i have a 2002 with the V-10 3:73 ratio it pulls great i tow a 28 foot travel and 24 foot car trailers i bought the "big" mirrior and put on my self then take back off in the winter ,found easyer to park it takes about 10 to 15 min. to swap i paid about $500 for new but shop around you can find used i bought mine for a 2005 with all the lights and heated they plugged in but had to add the marker light wire
With an excursion V10 6.8 liter you cant go wrong for towing purposes. This is just a big beast, not to mention the amount of power it has on it, i am pretty sure you will enjoy driveability and comnfort using this great suv.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.....
good luck.....

Go with the trailer tow mirrors. I had a '99 F250 Super Duty Crew Cab with regular electric mirrors and soon after I got mt TT replaced them with the trailer tow type.

We have a 2000 Excursion Limited with all the "good stuff" you are looking at. We used it last year to pull our 29Y Prowler---and we just bought a 2001 Timberland and will pull that this year. We traded an E150 van for the Excursion. We also have 4 kids ages 4 - 12 and 2 big dogs. When we were looking for a new tow vehicle, we discovered we quickly narrowed down our choices and ended up with the Excursion.
We towed more than 4000 miles last summer without a single problem. In fact, we were amazed at how much easier the trailer towed and how much more comfortable we both felt towing. I refused to drive while towing with the van, but now enjoy driving with the Excursion. We love the telescopic trailer tow mirrors and would highly recommend them. They allow you to see the back bumper of an 8' wide trailer with ease and are a huge safety feature.
We found the inside of the Excursion to be roomy enough to comfortably seat 6 of us plus 2 dogs in kennels in the back. We added a tv/vcr combo and it sits on the console in the front. With the elevated back seat everyone can easily see the t.v. and the headphone jacks throughout the truck are great!
Good luck with your decision. They are expensive (we still choke over the sticker!) and they certainly are not economical in the gas department, but we are happy with the decision we made.
