Hello sunshineyes2 and thank you for asking your question here on fixya.com.

I have actually written a general information article that will walk you through the general process of changing the fan belt on your
2004 Kia Spectra. It will also point you to the resources you need for getting the diagrams of how the belt needs to go back on. Belts usually cost less than $20 and take a few minutes to put them on.

Here is a link to that article:

Alternator belt broken. How to replace?

Hi, Installing a belt if fairly easy. If you will look under hood or around the latch you may have a picture on how to put your belt around the pulleys. This is most helpful. It is hard to explain to you on how to route this belt, but if you have to go get this belt, or you can get a ride to auto zone, they will print you out a diagram that will show you the exact routing, lets say if you have air conditioning, ECT. They have that site they call Net scape.com which will print what you need out, for no charge, so it is worth the trip. You will have to loosen the alternator bolts so it pivets back and forth. The diagram will also tell you this. Take the time to fine the auto parts store Auto Zone, you will be glad you did. It would be much easier to show you then try and explain it to you.
Sincerely,

Are there any tricks to removing the alternator in a 1999 Toyota 4runner? I have remove the electrical wire and the two main nut and bolt and it still won't budge.

Dear Stuck Alternator.....Yes there is a trick....pay attention....If you have the belt off already and the mounting nuts and bolts then we're almost there. There is a pressed spacer that helps to hold this alternator on and it does make it a little harder to get off. All you simply do is take a medium sized flat head screwdriver and pry on the longer bolt hole....it's going to swing sideways.....you want to pry it in that same direction.....will be fairly easy...get back to me if ya have any other questions...thx HOPE I COULD HELP!!

Change alternator on 2003 chevy impala

here is a trick. While it is running, use a yardstick or wooden broom hande, and place it on the casting of the alternator or object you suspect is growling. You can hear the bad bearing amplified through the wood if you put your ear to it. It is a great way to pin point bad bearing noise
