If you suspect that intake is bended, send it in a machine shop to chechk if it is flat, and if necesary to machine it before installing the new gasket.

There should be no reason to change the intake itself, just the intake gasket,be sure to torque the bolts to specs, and you will have no problem in the future.

Top gaskets including head gaskets or just intake manifold gaskets?
You can try a chemical dye in the water and see if a ultraviolet light will show a leak.

Check the thermostat, would not help leak but could explain things like sheared off water pump impeller or blocked water passages if thermostat came apart.

The electric cooling system is there for a reason, the water is not enough to cool some of these engines. This can explain the overheating but not the water loss.

Check the a/c duct drain coming out of the Firewall. Your heater core could leak and discharge out the bottom of your truck.

Coolant leak 05 denali

I will assume as usual that it has the 5.7L engine. The common cause for a coolant leak in these truck are the intake manifold. It either leaks externally or internally or both this is a common problem with this engine. You have to replace the intake gaskets. This a fairly big job. First check your engine oil if the level has risen and if the oil smells like anti freeze or looks like a milkshake kinda foamy then the chances are good that your intake is leaking. If all else fails you will have to do a coolant pressure test and you will seee the leak probably. It could also be your cylinder head gaskets but the most likely cause is the intake gasket. $100.00 for the gasket kit and about 5-6 labour. Change your oil & filter before you start it after you replace the gaskets. Then if your leak goes away change your oil & filter again about a week later to ensure you get all the coolant out of the engine oil this is very harmfull to the bearings in the engine.

you probably have a bad intake or head gasket. check your oil dipstck and see if you oil is foamy or has a chocalate milk mix. if so your head gasket is going. look at the exhaust if the exhaust is white your intake gasket may be bad. you could have a cracked part also. if you do not find these problems . you can remove your spark plugs and do a coolant pressure test to force out the coolant to find the leak. autzone rents these for free and it installs in your radiator cap.

Oil in over coolant tank

If there is oil inside the coolant liquid that is the head gasket.

Check first if oil can leak into the coolant tank from the cap.

Usually when you get oil into the coolant liquid you have an head gasket problem, do a compression test, or buy the home tester below.

Leaking coolent by oil pan

The 3.1 liter V-6 engines in several GM models had problems with the intake manifold gaskets leaking coolant, between the intake manifold and the top of the engine block, due to faulty gaskets. There was a class action suit on this problem, but I don't remember the time parameters. I know it's about 6 or 7 hundred bucks to have it repaired at a GM dealership. Good luck.
