If you are talking about the radiator cooling fan, then the cooling fan relay is bad,and is stuck on,or someone has hot wired the fan directly to the ignition switch, and needs to be wired back to where it belongs,so that it cuts on,and off with the engine temp.

When I turn the engine off the engine cooling fan stays on and does not shut off

depending on the engine temperature the fan is supposed to remain on after you turn the engine off, until the engine reaches a preset cooler temperature. when it reaches cooler temperature usually within 5 minutes or so it should cut off... if you cut it off and it is running 30 minutes later.. then there is a problem with the fan relay or temperature sending unit.

Why do my cooling fans on my 99 beetle stay on

You should be able to unplug the fan coolant temp switch and see if the fans turn off if they do replace the switch. It is located in the plastic housing that the upper hose is attatched to closer to engine than the radiator.

Cooling fan stays on after turning off car

Taken from other previous solution (but it's right): the cooling fans are switched off and on by a relay. either this relay bad and staying on all the time, or something else is bad and telling it to stay on all the time. you might unplug the engine coolant temp sensor and see if the fans switch off. if they do you have a bad temp sensor, if they don't you probably have a bad relay. they will test either for you at most car parts stores. the relay will be in the underhood power distribution box, it plugs in like a fuse. disconnect the battery negative terminal before you start unplugging things from the power distribution box. hope that helps

I have a 2006 PT cruiser and the cooling fan will not turn off

on a lot of vehicles, the electric fan cooling the radiator will stay on when the car is turned off. this is normal and happens when the senser tells the fan that the engine is hot and needs cooling. if it stays on for prolonged periods, there is a problem somewhere. should cool and turn off automatically. My cooling fan wont turn off when my car warm up fully

Your cooling fans may never turn off until the engine temp cools down enough. Also if your A/C switch (if equiped) is on the fan should stay on. The defrost position also turns the A/C on as well (helps to defrost windows faster) so that would turn the fan on.

Radiator Fan Stays On

A simple test would involve disconnecting the fan switch while the fan is on. If the fan then stops the switch has failed. If the fan continues to run remove the relay , if the fan then stops the relay has failed.
Various inputs/outputs at the relay should be confirmed to be 100% certain something strange isn't going on.
Above all be careful of the fan itself , if it's running obviously but if it's not it could start during repair

Fan cooling system of an engine v.w

A thermal switch controls the radiator fan and if the temperature of your radiator is above a preset temperature value, the thermal switch will close and the fan will turn on and will stay on even after you turn the motor off, until your radiator temperature cools down. I wouldn't worry about.
