My 89 Corolla DX has an intermittent problem. It seems to be a cold
weather problem (does not happen when above freezing). It will be
running just fine when suddenly it just quits, and car coasts to a
stop. It will only start if accelerator pedal is held to the floor,
and then all the engine does is sputter and "diesel". If the car sits
for about 2-5 minutes it will start up fine and drive as if nothing was
wrong. I took the car in thinking it was an icing problem. The Toyota
dealer rebuilt the carb (at a tune of 300 bucks, and replaced the
throttle position switch for another 40 dollars). I am tired of
throwing away my money and any input would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
