Question about Fiat 124
If the clutch feels strong and it is only happening on 1 or 2 gears, this is likely going to be caused by worn synchros in the transmission. What these items are, little brass rings, shaped like gears themselves that go on the gear shafts and help to align the gear so the shift fork can easily push the other gear into place. If these are worn or broken, you get gears that do not align and grind when use is needed. The transmission will need to be removed and taken apart to determine how much damage is there. This is not a rebuild, but do let an expert give you his opinion about what NEEDS to be done while it is on the bench. Let me know if you need anything else. Unfortunately, I do not have a shop manual for this particular model.
