There is also a relay--probably in a relay box under the hood with other relays. It should click when you step on the brake. If not, replace it.

Sorry, but I cannot find the wiring diagram any more. I suggest you check the direction switch. The stop light wire goes thru the directional switch to power the brake lights. Check to make sure the wire from the stop light switch is hot when the pedal is depressed. Then trace the stop light wire to the directional switch connector at the base of the steering column. Back-probe the directional switch connector (leave it connected but push your probe in the back to contact the terminals). Use a 12 volt test light with the clip attached to a good ground point under the dash. With the stop light switch connector terminals shorted together, power should be going up the steering column. There should be 2 other wires that are hot at the connector--one for the right and one for the left brake light. If you don't find these hot terminals, replace the turn switch. This requires special tools, and that is why I recommend running the test first. If you need instructions for replacing the switch, please get back to me. It involves using a puller to get the steering wheel off and then a lock plate spring compressor to get to the turn switch. A new switch is $40 at autozone.

None of my brake lights are working

If you checked the bulbs of course then the next thing to check is the brake switch behind the brake pedal. No working switch, no brake lights. Also fuses should be checked and any realys on the circuit.

Third brake light does not work after changing the bulbs

If some of the lights work then you probably don't need to change the light assembly. My first guess would be a burnt out fuse. Look for the fuse box and remove the cover. Usually on the inside of the cover it will have a diagram for all the fuses and you can find the one for the brake lights. Some vehicles have relays that are fried and these may be under the hood. Just look for a black box which contains electrical relays and other fuses. The last thing I can think of is a switch that is right above the brake pedal. When you apply the brake a small plastic or metal extends and this is what makes your brake light come on. www.lightdeal.co.uk

I changed my rear brake pads one weea ago i have just descuvered to day that i have no brake lights working , can u help me

Hi!

Changing the brake pad has nothing to do with the brake light unless you touched the switch thats under your brake pedal. Or you might have a burnt light bulbs. Good luck

'99 Expedition brake lights aren't turning on when pressing brake

It could be a number of things, the good news is that none of them are serious or expensive to fix.

The normal components that make up your brake circut are:

1. The brake light fuse (In the fuse box and labeled as such)
2. The brake light switch/relay - also called a stop light switch. It's under the dash, right behind the brake pedal arm. When you push the brake, it sends a signal to the lights which turns them on. Think of the dome light switch in the door jam of your truck. When you open the door, it releases the switch and your dome light pops on. Same thing with the brake light switch.
3. The bulbs in the tail lights and the 3rd brake light.
If none of them are working, it's most likely a fuse or the switch/relay under the dash. If it's the switch, it's a $12 part. Obviously fuses are only a couple bucks.

All of the bulbs for the brake lights are new all

Brake light switch, think it should be under the brake pedal. when brakes are applied, the pedal compresses the switch, which makes the brake lights come on.

Running lights work but brake lights wont

there are only two things i can think of, i maybe wrong though.

1. check fuse on fuse box. guide on where the fuse is on the cover of the box.

2. check bulbs, brake lights should be double-contact. meaning there is a high and low light.
