Do a Cylinder Leak Down Test --to see if the valve are shot & leaking

You can also do an electronic cylinder contribution test

Then if the all seal, check the timing belt

After that check for vacuum leaks with evap smoke machine

I have Honda Civic 2005. I have a jerky acceleration in the 3rd gear mostly at 60-70 kph and going up. This some what feels like a fuel injection problem, as if there is some blockage in the fuel...

Most acceleration misfires are caused by ignition problems.

Under acceleration or when climbing a hill the throttle is opened to allow more air and fuel into the engine to create more power. The increased power happens because the compression pressure and therefore the combustion pressure on each piston is increased. The higher compression equals a more dense atmosphere which in turn makes it much harder for a spark to jump across the spark plug electrodes. The voltage needed to fire the plug at idle and small throttle openings is typically only about a quarter of what is required at full load.

If the ignition system can't provide sufficient voltage the spark won't jump and the cylinder(s) won't fire or will only do so sporadically.

That is why nothing should be taken for granted when checking an engine - the ignition has not been checked until the available spark power has been checked.
Worn spark plugs, incidentally, need more voltage and sometimes nearly double that of new spark plugs.

My '01 impala 3.4 v-6 flat spots when COLD, at around 20mph. the idle is ruff with random misfires. acceleration is overall poor. when HOT, most symptoms go away leaving only some slight acceleration...

depending on mileage, but possible tune-up could fix it. if already done then check ignition coil pack and ignition wires also spark plugs, check vacuum hoses for leaks or porous, last injectors clogged - use some techron fuel injector cleaner (wal-mart has them). Also get the throttle body and iac valve cleaned by throttle cleaner . Also this other possibilities are to be checked and confirmed.:---- Engine running rough or misfiring can be cause by the following:

1.Defective spark plugs
2.Inadequate spark/coil, defective spark plug wire.
3. Lack of compression
4.False air leakage.
5. Faulty fuel injectors.
6. Insufficient fuel pressure.
7. Contaminated fuel.
8. EGR valve that is leaking.
9. Oxygen sensors.
10. Throttle position sensor.
11. Manifold absolute pressure sensor
12.Mass Airflow Sensor
13.Idle air control valve

--------- This should help.Keep updated.Thanks.Helpmech.

1992 pontiac grand am no acceleration, a rough idle (engine miss)

Does it have the 2.3l Quad 4 engine? If so replace the plastic piece that the coils go into, they go bad and leak spark to the cam towers and then you get a nice one or multiple cylinder misfire.

My 96 bronco 5.8 stumbles on acceleration.

Did it spark well on all the plugs? Usually if you have no change in idle with two wires removed it needs a new set of spark plug wires. If it was cylinder 2 & 3 (side by side) then you should suspect a head gasket. Does the Bronco have multiple coils or a coil pack with multiple inputs? Are these two plugs hooked up to one coil?

Check engine light shows misfires in two cylinders and backfires.

Yes it could. make sure to use the correct champion plugs as well. Make sure your firing order is correct as the intake shouldn't cause a back fire. 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2.
