Question about 1994 Ford Taurus

I have a 94 ford taurus 3.0 with overdrive. i need to know what kind of transmission i need for it.

When looking for a trany all you need to do is tell them its a 1994 taurus with a 3.0, but just keep in mind these tranys have a lot of problems so if you get a used one theres no telling how long it will last, your best bet is to find a used one that has been rebuilt or get a rebuilt one, these tranys are known for going bad, anyway that car should have the trany AXOD-E this is the type of trany you have, hope this helps/

I bought a 2004 Ford Taurus and having problems with it shifting. Sometimes it will not shift out of a low gear and revs high RMPs into overdrive or drive. Sometimes I have to pull over, stop, turn the car...


Have you checked the trans. fluid level and condition-should be a clear red, not burnt or brown looking.
Have a shop or transmission shop diagnose it. First they will check for trouble codes to see if there is an electrical problem. It kind of sounds like it. But if it is an internal mechanical problem-you know what that means: transmission rebuild or replacement.

this is the drive gear position with the overdrive being part of the transmission drive gear when the car is driven over a pre-determined speed,it goes into the overdrive function.

Trans. dont work when warm.


Your transmission is going out. You could try running some lucas transmission fluid in it and see if that helps. i know they sell it at wal-mart

The ford taurus is know for having a weak transmission, however if the transmission is serviced regularly you can avoid problems.

The first D (the one that has the shaded circle) is Overdrive and the other D is not Overdrive!
