SOURCE: Horn Problem

All VW's have electrical problems sounds like a relay switch isn't working properly or you have a serious eletrical problem. And if's a 1.8 turbo boy are you in for a headach. That cars a nightmare I know cause I've worked on these cars and VW won't recall any of them. Best thing to do is try to fix it and dump it.

SOURCE: steering wheel horn button not working 98 gulf

you need to find the wire connected to the horn of the vehicle and follow it back to through the firewall and make sure that it is connected to the horn itself. If not you will need to run another one. Also check the fuses

2001 VW Bug Horn was randomly honking, Now it wont work at all. Relays and Fuses are good. Should I just replace the horn itself? Not quite sure whats the issue.Want to figure out before making drive

it the horn activates randomly when driving and when the steering wheel is moved , the problem will be the ground contact under the steering wheel
there is a small spring loaded button that runs on a slip ring in the back of the steering wheel and intermittent/ random operation can be traced back to a fault in this area
the horn works so it is good , the fuses and relays are working to make the horn work so they are good ( unless there is a grounding problem with the relay causing the relay to operate and blow the horn)

2000 VW Jetta TDI my Horn just stopped! I don't know which relay to start by, The fuse is good but no V at horns Is there a wiring diagram to be had?

There is a "clockspring" wiring spiral in the steering wheel to accommodate the rotating steering wheel with controls on it. If this breaks, you may lose some or all functions controlled by stuff on the s-wheel.

Horn not working

it could be the contacts inside the steering wheel. if they get dirty or corroded they won't make contact and that contact is what completes the circuit to sound the horn

2002 VW Beetle 1.8T\r\nRemoved horns and tested using battery & the both worked, reinstalled & press horn on steering wheel & nothing just hear a clicking noise from where I pushed on steering...

Generally the steering wheel boss switch does not wear out (the horn is not over used!). I would check the fuses and then the relay and if they look OK check the wiring form the relay to the horns for continuity. Use a voltmeter to check that voltage is being supplied to the relay when the horn switch is pressed. Then check that voltage is being output by the relay in response to this voltage input. If this all looks OK then there is some kind of break in the wiring to the horn unit

1997 nisan xe p/u horn honks by itself... mostly when making turns

Step by step:
1. Your problem is in your steering wheel horn assembly.
2. If you have airbags I recommend finding which fuse controls them and remove them (SRS fuse), but before doing so make sure the steering wheel is perfectly straight. Disconnect the battery one or both sides. Wait ten to 15 minutes if you have an airbag to start working on the vehicle.
3. Make sure you wear an anti static wrist band, and or discharge your self on some metal before working with the air bag.
4. There should be screws on the back of the steering wheel to remove the center portion, remove and unplug not to forget where you unplugged what.
5. remove the center nut that holds the steering wheel on, use a steering wheel puller to remove the steering wheel, unless your he-man and can pull it off your self.
6. remove the horn assembly and replace with all new parts, every single piece of the horn assembly you must replace.
7. Reverse the removal procedure and work backwards.
8. Last, reconnect battery and fuses and if you have an airbag stand back while doing so in case airbag decides to discharge.
Hope this helps! Good luck !

Indicators not self cancelling & Horn not working

I had the same problem. Horn not working and indicators not self cancelling.
After removing the steering wheel I found that the central two pronged collet, that engages with the steering wheel and drives the horn contact slipring and indicator cancellation, had worn down its prongs. this had caused the horn wires to stop rotating and they had been snapped by the motion of the steering wheel.
the ideal solution would be to replace the collet and horn wires but I managed to repair both
