I have a 1984 Toyota Carib Sprinter 4wd wagon (this is a Toyota Tercel in the States). I'm trying to replace the fuel filter, but don't know how to depressurize the fuel system on this vehicle.

Don't worry about it...as soon as you loosen the fuel filter clamp the pressure will go away. It's not that high. Just wrap a rag around the connection.
You can also pull the fuel pump fuze with the engine running...when engine stops the system is depressurized.
If it has a mechanical fuel pump (?) there will be very little pressure if any in the system.

How to change fuel pump

Disconnect fuel pump fuse, crank until it stalls to depressurize the system. Disconnect straps holding tank underneath. Lower and disconnect fuel lines from the tank assembly. Replace pump, reassemble, reinstall fuse, change filter, and voila. Takes about 2 hours and helps to have 2 people.

Honda Civic Coupe. Year 2000 1.6. How can I depressurize the fuel system easily to change the fuel filter situated in the engine compartment.

Hi,

IMPORTANT: Do not skip the fuel system pressure release step. Injury and other damage can result!
Safety Step! Relieving Fuel System Pressure
· allow engine to cool
· relieve fuel system pressure
· put on your eye protection
Before you begin the job of replacing your fuel filter, you must relieve the pressure in your fuel system. A fuel injection system operates under very high pressure. If you don't release this pressure before you start unscrewing fuel lines the result can be explosive. Do this before you attempt to change the fuel filter.
To release the pressure in your fuel lines (and fuel filter) you'll need to locate the fuel pump fuse in the fuse box. If you don't have a fuel pump fuse, find the relay that operates the fuel pump. Once you've found the fuel pump fuse or relay, start the car. With the engine running, pull the fuse or relay out. If you pulled the right one, the engine will quickly die. Since it's using all of the pressurized fuel in the system, the fuel lines won't be pressurized when you crack the fittings on your fuel filter.
Now that you've relieved the fuel pressure you can remove the old fuel filter.
If you didn't do this yet, you must go to the previous step and do it. Very dangerous!

Best regards.

I have a 1994 ford thunderbird and it has a problem of sputtering and then stopping after about 45 minutes. It sounds like its not getting enough feul. If you let it set for about an hour or two, it will...

All of your symtoms point to a clogged fuel filter. The filter is located underneath the car below the passenger's side door. It will have fuel lines connected at either end. You will need to depressurize the fuel system by either disconnecting the fuel relay or disconnecting the wiring harness for the fuel pump. The bolt is clamped on the frame so you will need to unbolt the mounting bolts. Then you will rotate the fuel filter our and uscrew from the fuel lines.

Hello, do I need to depressurized the fuel system on my 1990 pathfinder before i change the fuel filter and if so,how? thank you. Sorry about my English.

if you can find it, take the fuel pump relay out and try to start it up. it may start and stall. thats ok, OR just loosen the pipe at the filter slowly, the gas will leak out, then it will be ok to remove the filter.

2004 KIA TROUBLE WITH START UP AFTER FILLING UP WITH GAS

The fuel filter may be at the end of it life time and need to be replace. I believe the fuel filter is under the battery bolted to the frame rail. Its a cylinder shape with a fuel line on both end with quick connect fittings. IN the fuse box, remove the fuse to the fuel pump or the fuel pump relay with the engine running, this will depressurize the fuel line. The fuel line on the filter are quick connect fittings, depress the tab's on the fuel line and push towards the filter and the line should just pop off. If you find it to hard to depress the tabs, use a pair of pliers. But be careful not to damage the fuel line. Install the new filter, place fuse or relay back in for the fuel pump. start the engine and look for leaks. If the check engine light came on, disconnect the battery to clear the light, but make sure the radio is turned off before you disconnect the battery for 5 min. Reconnect and everything should be good to go. Hope this helps. keep me posted.

The fuel pump relays are mounted on an "L" bracket underneath the ECM. Both have something to do with the Fuel pump. Be careful not to get it confused with the horn relay it is in the same vicinity (under the dash on the drivers side).

I'm trying to find the fuel pump fuse for my 2000 Hyundai Elantra so that I can depressurize my fuel system and change the fuel filter. None of the abbreviations in the fuse box seem to refer to the fuel...

taking the fuse out is not going to relieve the pressure, you can either relieve pressure at the fuel rail or at a test port or even at the filter, get some safety glasses and disconnect the batt.maybe you should break the nut on the filter and slowly let the pressure use some gags or a pan to catch the spillage.or break the nut at the fuel rail and do the same thing,if ya need more advise let me know DB
