Make sure that you are not turning your wheels hard left or right when you turn it off (keep wheels straight) also some vehichles require that you step on the brake pedal to release the transmission out of park. if this does not work check your ignition switch to make sure there is no damage and that when you release your key after starting that your switch is returning to the ON position. and not hanging up between igntion and on.

The back bolts on my thermostat /water outlet is hard to get to.on my 2000 lincoln ls what tools do i need

should be able to get to it with a flex-socket,unless it's best for you to remove whatever is in the way (try first with a flex-socket and extension. MAKE SURE YOU HAND START THE BOLTS TO MAKE SURE YOU DON'T CROSS-THREAD AND TIGHTEN EVENLY AS TO PREVENT BREAKING THE NEW PIECE.

Can't get my car our of park its a 2000 Lincoln ls v6

When you operate the brakes, does the brake light come on?
If not, then check and/or replace your brake switch (located towards the top of the brake pedal).

If your brake light works, then check the gear shift lock solenoid operation. Check for power to the solenoid, when the brake pedal is depressed and check the solenoid movement. Replace if necessary.

No brake lights

Dear Madam or Sir,

the cause of your concern is a defective brake pedal switch. Of course the correct operation of this switch is responsable to activate the brake lights but it also activates an interlock mechanism in the shift column, so you cannot put the lever out of P position without stepping on the brake pedal. This is meant as protective system to prevent the car from moving accidently.

Kind regards from Germany
