Hi, when i start my 1998 jeep grand cherokee in morning ,no problems all gauges are fine lpg cuts in on the mark .but,if i turn engine off for short period and go back to it when i turn the key on the fuel and battery gauges don't work and the jeep won't fire up i have to get out and take neg cable off battery and re connect.THEN IT IS FINE AGAIN If i leave it over night say the problem will rectify its self. But when i get out to go to the shop it will more than likely happen again. The jeep turns over bu tno fire up, its like the imoblizer is on and i can't see why fuel or battery gauges won't work, they are fine any other time .Please help

Hi,

It sounds like the immobilizer is not switching off properly, the best thing is to reset it and if you are unable to do this then take it to a dealer and they will do it, for free sometimes.

Hope this helps, let me know if you need more information.

Thanks

Jason

Last night I stopped my 1994 Jeep grande cherokee v6. Went out this morning and the engine turned over fine but it was as if it was not getting gas or a spark. Similar to when the security system goes into...

When the security system cuts the ignition, it lets you know.
So it was probably the fuel or spark instead.
You need to check rail fuel pressure with a gauge, and check current to coil with test light.
It could be a simple relay like for the fuel pump.
If you got no dash lights, it could be the ignition switch.
The ignition or fuel control module could be bad, but Autozone can check them if you bring them in.

If you have zero oil pressure thats a BAD sign, first have a mechanic check what the engines actual oil pressures are.

if your not getting spark or fuel to the engine and the ignition coil and fuel pump are good i would suspect it to be an anti-theft, or security issue. are you using a key you had just got cut??

saw off the "fixed" hold-down on the distributor and use a chevrolet smallblock hold-down. Once re-installed turn distributor ccw about 1/4" or slightly more. If I'm correct, engine should run fine after that.

Check the condition of the tranny oil on the dipstick. If it's black and smelly, the tranny clutches might be worn out. Make sure you have enough fluid in there first. Check the fluid with the car engine running and the tranny in park. The level should be between the 2 marks.
