Question about 1998 Chevrolet Cavalier
HI! The erratic idling can be caused by a faulty MAF (mass air flow) sensor. If the MAF is faulty a very unusual engine performance is noticeable so you will need to have the MAF replaced. Regarding the unusual behavior of the temperature, there are two things too look at. First, the radiator blower can be faulty that sometimes it doesn't turn when engine is hot. Second is, the temp sending unit maybe faulty thats why the temp reading goes up and down, this will need replacement too to correct the problem. HOpe this helps and thank you for using FixYa!
