my 99 cavalier is blowing the fuel pump fuse when you try to start haved traced wiring to the fuel pump and found nothing could it be a problem with my ignition system if so what, thank you

  • benenuf Sep 08, 2010

i have tried that but i am not getting power at relay

  • benenuf Sep 08, 2010

ihave check the resistance on the wires from the relay to the pump they are all good but still no power at all so my question is where does the ignition system tie into the system and could that be my culprit

A short in the wiring. Disconnect the power wires and start again - if the fuse is blown you will know that the pump is good . Take out the relay and check the resistance on the power wires - if it's 0 then the short is on the wires between the relay and the pump. In that case you must inspect every single inch of it till you find the fault.

No, it can't be it, a fault that would cut the power to the relay wouldn't blow the fuse. Simple test - take out the relay and jump its contacts - if the fuse blows you will now that the problem is between the relay and the fuse, in the fusebox.
Or you might have a bad pump - disconnect the power lines and fuel line from it and power it directly from the battery - if the fuel doesn't squirts  out then it's faulty.

Wire earthing out somewhere ,but where ?? best bet is chop feed wire at solonoid ,ie the wire that becomes live when you turn car on and runbs to the pump, pull relay out and turn ignition on and you will find a feed thats switchable with the ignition switch ,their is also a permanant 12v feed now the opposite side of the permanant feed is the supply to the pump chop this one and run a new cable ,job done

right check for a feed from the big fuses undser the bonnet near the battery ,in this box is some 40 and bigger fuses also check the connections at the bottom of the fuses for corrosion

My 1999 Chevy cavalier is blowing fuses connected

disconnect the fuel pump connector and install fuse to see if it blows. if not then the fuel pump is drawing too much amperage causing the fuse to blow.

L999 Chevy Cavalier keeps blowing fuses and won't start

you have a SERIOUS electrical problem. - '.
BUT which fuses keep blowing - that is where we need to start.
1. is it the ignition circuit. - - does starter motor turn over when you trun the key.
2. is it the starter relay circuit.
3. is it the starter motor circuit.
4. is it the computer circuit. - - do you have fuel pumping to the engine and cylinders.
5. none of the above. - - do you have spark at the spark plugs.

1991 chevy cavalier- stopped running going down road. Replaced fuel pump and fuel pump relay-ran for two weeks and the when making a stop, cut off again and won't start and is blowing the fuel pump fuse...

Sounds like a short between the fuse panel and the fuel pump relay. This can be from the fuel pump relay itself through an exposed bit of wire, or even a defective relay which seems to happen more than most times. Check the wiring to the relay and wrap or tape anything where bare wire may be exposed. Disconnect relay and try a new fuse. IF the fuse doesn't blow, then the problem source is the relay itself that is defective.

Hope this helps!

Will not start and checked fuel pump no power to fuel pump i also have blown fuse for ecmb that blows as soon as i replace it

ECM B fuse supplies a constant 12v hot at all times to the VCM/PCM and to the fuel pump relay. The fuse is blowing telling you that there is a short to ground somewhere. Try this, take the fuel pump relay out and put a new fuse in. If it doesn't blow put the relay back in and if it blows then try a new relay. The relay may be shorted to ground internaly. Other wise you'll have to trace the wires to the VCM and the pump relay to look for a chafed wire that's contacting metal. The wire coming from the ECM B fuse is orange and has a splice in it going to the pump relay and the VCM/PCM.
Hope this helps.....Andrew

Fuel ECU fuse keeps blowing (30 amp)

Your fuel pump is internally binding and causing the fuse to blow. Change the pump (and filter while you're back there.)

Tuned up a 1993 chevy cavalier has spark won't start

Spray aerosol carb cleaner into the throttle body while an assistant tries to start the engine. If it runs for a few seconds then quits, you are not getting fuel into the engine. Check the fuses. You might have blown the fuse for the fuel injectors (possible if you removed any of the injector harnesses) or the fuel pump relay.
