Question about Toyota RAV4

I have a 1999 Rav 4 and just had my Catalytic Convertor and exhaust system replaced, now my check engine light is on and my mechanic says it is okay as long as it is not blinking. The Oxygen Sensor was not replaced. What could be the problem of the light staying on?

If your mechanic is telling it's ok, as long as it's not blinking, then you need to find another mechanic that knows how to fix it and not guess, when the computer first picks up a bad signal from a sensor, it will blink the code number, after that it will store it and the light will stay on, till it's fix, there's a code stored in the computer, go to any auto parts or Autozone, where they will pull code's from your computer for free, but don't buy any thing till you have it checked out first, you are more then welcome to get back with us with the trouble code number, and we will help you diag. your trouble code.

I have 4 oxygen sensors 1 is bad code po431 bank 2 is the upper or lower sensor

the convertor is located under the car its part of the exhaust system you will see the 02 sensor sticking out of the exhaust pipe

My car is loosing power when i drive and starts to bog...i have already changed my plugs and wires. but when i let the car idle in the drive way my catalytic converter is getting cherry red and catching on...


this is caused buy a bad 02 sensor in exhaust system. or a bad convertor. but the check engine light will be on. also you may have a plugged up convertor. if the sensor fails it will send info to pcm that it is not reading it and therefore dump to much rich exhaust into convertor.

When i started my 2006 rav 4 this morning these lights came on and are still on, brake light,4wd light, ABS, VSC LIGHT?


If you had your foot on the brake while starting brake light could come on. If a catalytic convertor does not pass at startup (possibly ox sensor or whole convertor) then the computor turns 4wd vsc and check engine light on. note the six cylinder has three catalytic convertors and the four cylinder has two. Very expensive if convertor(s)

That sounds a little steep for a shop, you could go dealer and get diagram(they usually will print out for you for free)and locate parts on vehicle the two sensors are not complicated to change(the oxygen sensor when replacing usually comes with the plug make sure you get one that plugs right into harness). The inflow sensor(maybe dirty,you can buy maff sensor cleaner in a aersol can and spray it on it it has to be that stuff anything else will not work---YOU MAY WANT TO TRY THAT BEFORE ANYTHING ELSE MAY SOLVE PROBLEM),If no luck then proceed with oxygen sensor replacement then inflow sensor(maff sensor)you can get several estimates on catalytic convertor(make sure its close to the same or it may not work correctly)if you have bottomed out car in past it will break innerds of catalytic convertor and when innerds get hot it will clog exhaust(i had one do that and got stranded 150 miles from nowhere).If your check engine light is on most likely tripping those two sensors-exhaust restriction could cause those two sensors to trip.If you goto reputable reasonable muffler shop they can check the catalytic convertor(betting thats it causing other two sensors to trip)you can also try cleaning air flow sensor(under 10 dollar fix)and see if that changes anything--anyhow hope all this that i threw at you might help your problem! Warning lights on a 2006 toyota rav 4 32,000 miles


I had the same problem. A computer check showed that the emission system was having difficulty. The catalytic converter had to be replaced. The car had under 80,000 miles on it so it was covered by a warranty (State law? Federal law?).
My battery was also dead. That was replaced free too. It had a 7 year warranty.
I do NOT purchase extended warranties.
