I used to have a 91 Crown Victoria which I sold 2 years ago and it just pondered upon me an issue when I did all 4 brakes on my car about 3 years ago. I had bought new rotors and drums from Pep Boys when I did the brake job. About 3 days later I noticed significant vibration on the highway without stepping on the brakes. But about 2 days later, it was gone. Someone at work had told me you still have to get new rotors and drums machined, as this might have caused the problem. Is this true? I'm figuring the vibration was due to the pads needing to be properly seated.
When I replaced rotors on 91 Taurus, my trusty NAPA dealer (he's VERY reliable) told me that the rotors I bought did not need to be touched. Just clean with brake cleaner and away you go. I followed that advice and the brakes have worked fantastic for the last 6 months.

I have found that some rotors are not true when you buy them... These lower priced rotors seem to consistently cost about half what the flat parallel rotors cost...

I am a brake tech. the answer to your question is yes. you should turn new drums and rotors to prevent a pulsatating pedal after the brakes get good and hot the first time.

I've been a brake mech (Us oldsters are mechs. Techs is for youngsters.) since before disc brakes. I speaketh thusly - "In the year 2001 NO new rotor worth it's weight must be machined. (Sans the ocasional oddball that demands to be pressed on.)" ...

I bought new rotors from Autozone for my 95 Taurus. They pulsated after about a week. I took them back and got replacements under warranty. That set was made who knows where. The second set is stamped "FORD" with the oval symbol and are made in Brazil. They are working fine after 7 mos. Guy at Autozone said he gets quite a few returns on rotors that come from China and Mexico and don't have a American manufacturer symbol to go with them.

Assuming the rotors were turned at the factory, are you saying the car should be driven to get the brakes hot and then turn the rotors again? I don't know anyone that actually does this?

Thanks for all your responses and inputs.I guess for the most part they do not need to be cut. I'll keep that in mind next time I do a brake job.

I've got an old '91 Ford Crown Vic, it was an Fire car (maybe a PD car before that) and has had a lot of wires cut (they really did a hack job, no power to any inside lights, cigarette lighter, horn, so on). I am trying to figure out where the power wires for the courtesy & dome lights are and re-connect power to the horn. Any where I can find a diagram showing where the wires would come from, so i can run down the cut?

'91 Crown Victoria- Low beams and wipers quit working at same time. Replaced multi-function switch (wiper/turn/beam/hazard). Didn't solve anything. Was about to buy a headlight and replace one to see.... already spent $75 on switch...didn't want to spend more just trouble shooting.
