Front End Clunk.

Yep, I sure have. I had some nasty clunks from my strut bearing mounts
('81 323i, e21). I replaced them, clunks pretty much went away, then
started to return. Then I had to have my Bilsteins re-built. That ended
the clunks for good. Since you've already replaced the struts, I'd say the
bearing mounts are a very likely source.

Yes. Pretty common in all BMW models. The parts are relatively cheap;
the job is not. You should almost invariably do it at the same time as
a strut/shock replacement.

On E36 (1992-1998 3 series) this problem is usually the lower ball
joints.
