2008 gmc sierra 1500 with 4.8 motor fuel pump runs continually even with ignition off

Possible shorted fuel pump relay. Disconnect relay to see if pump shuts off. If so, suspect relay problem. This vehicle may have 2 relays. Try the one in the underhood relay/fuse center first. Here are some pictures of relay locations. If equipped with a secondary relay, it will be #3 in the lower picture for location

95 bmw 325i cranks but wont start.Has fire to plugs, checked fuel pump fuse, relay and main relay,no ground to fuel relay socket,no hot or ground going to fuel pump,,suspect DME ??? Was running fine un

Try to disarm the alarm system first,if that doesn't work, try your spare key,if it works the key is faulty.if this fails, put it on diagnostic machine.,since it can be EWS.

Fuel pump relay

The fuel pump relay is located in the underhood fuse and relay center, the bottom box cover lists the components location. I will tell you this, I have never seen a fuel pump relay fail in this car, it is likely if you have no fuel pressure the pump has failed in the fuel tank.

Our volvo estate its a 740 GL cutting out when we are driving, wont restart until after a minute or so then fine

#1 suspect is the fuel pump relay. Can you hear the fuel pump spin up for a second when you turn the key to the On position? If not, check fuses for fuel pumps. On a 240 it is fuses #4 and #6, but I am not sure about on a 740. Pull them out to examine them because the tips tend to corrode off fuses this old, so they can fail and still look OK until you pull them out.
If the fuses are good, take a paper clip and jumper between the fuel pump fuses. If the fuel pump hums and the car starts, the fuel pump relay is failing to close. That relay should be up under the dash above the passenger's right foot. Look it up on a parts website so you know what it looks like. If a new fuel pump relay will not close either, then we go to the #2 suspect, which is the engine computer. The computer should be behind the kick panel to the right of the passenger's right foot. The typical failure mode for the computer is that the transistor that supplies the ground for the fuel pump relay fails. Do NOT defeat thissafety feature by simply grounding the fuel pump relay. If the computer has failed, get a rebuilt computer (available from many suppliers)
#3 suspect is the lead on the crank position sensor. Take a light and maybe a mirror and look at the wire that runs down between the engine and the firewall to the sensor that is attached to the top of the bell housing. If the insulation is blistering off that lead, the sensor must be replaced. This is not a bad job if you have really skinny arms and really small hands, and the sensor has not rusted in place. Do NOT drop the 10 mm bolt that holds the sensor into the hole the sensor goes in, or you will not like yourself. The reason this was not the #1 suspect is that unless this is a very low mileage 740, this sensor has almost certainly already been replaced, and the replacement sensors are better made and last forever.

I cannot locate the fuel pump relay on my 1995 GMC Jimmy. I would need a description of it's location. Randy

a large book called an electronic component locator can pinpoint that for you. the book can be found at many dealerships, repair shops, and even your local auto parts store. such information is also often available on the computers at the same location and can be printed out for you. of the three, your local auto parts store might be the friendliest to provide you with the information.

Where is the fuse & relay switch for the fuel pump located.

Locate the fuse box. Facing the engine, the box is located on the the right fender. The fuel pump fuse should be labeled, The fuel pump relay is Incorporated in the FI relay located under right center of dash. It is a metal relay usually bolted to the floor near the ecm. Good luck and hope this helps but first replace the the fuel filter since it's the easiest thing to do.
