When is the clacking sound herd? Starting up only, idleing,on a pul, or on acceleration ? Can you pin point where the noise is comming from, front of engine, top, ect? Does the oil lite flicker at idle,or is the oil pressure low after running by the guage readout? What engine do you have? 4 cyl or v6? Is it high mileage? Valves may need adjustment,if they are not hydraulic type.need to know what engine you have!

I have a 2004 hilux 1kz-te turbo diesel. its suddenly made a vr loud tapping noise sounded like a belt broke but all belts including timing belt are all in one piece. the engine was cold and driven for...

Hi Gdw, I would have liked you to have given more details, such as, is the sound from start up and through the rev range, or does the knocking sound come at a certain rev range. I'm suspecting that the timing belt may have jumped and the valves are coming into contact with the pistons. The second suggestion is that combustion is escaping through a broken glow plug. If the injection timing has jumped and is out of phase that would also give a knocking sound. I think it would be advisable for you to have the valve and injection timing checked very urgently. It could be a tappet which has become loose, but as they are shimmed I doubt that could happen, unless a shim was not fitted correctly. Regards Johngee10

I INSTALLED ASTARTER IN 92 CHEV PU WORKS OK BUT AT FIRST GET GRINDING GEAR NOISE.

Sometimes the starter needs a shim installed to help this problem. If there was not a grinding noise with old starter you should be able to install a shim, these shims you can get at your auto parts store. they come in several thicknesses, most times you get 2 or 3 different thicknesses in a pack. Start with the thinner one and loosen the two starter bolts 3 to 4 turns then remove bolt furthest from engine , shim will slide in and slot at end should stradle bolt, align hole at other end and install other bolt and retighten bolts. test starter for noise,if noise is gone your done, if not try next thicker shim till noise is gone sometimes damage to the teeth on the flywheel can cause this noise but try the shims first. Good Luck!

Have a rebuilt 6.2 chev diesel. broke alternator belt. got new belt and put it on lower pulley, fan pulley and alternator. it keeps throwing the belt when revving the engine up. tried ac pulley, fan pulley...

It sounds like the alternator is not properly lined up. You had the belt on right the first time. Put it back on and before you start the truck check the alignment on the belt. From the side of the truck look down thw belt to the fan pulley and see if you notice a slight bend, or use a straight edge to do the same thing. Also sight down the belt to the crank for the same thing. Yoiu may have to shim out the alternator brackets to get the belt in line with the other pulleys. Hope this helps.

Our toyota has been with our local small garage

sounds to me like who ever changed the cam belt did not line up the timing marks psoperly, these marks ensure the engine valve timing is set correctly, if the timing marks are not set properly, the car runs rough, and lacks power...hence the reason for the marks......makes the car run like its only on 3 cylinders, instead of four...the effect is, lack of power, bad starting, running rough....eventually this will lead to more severe engine problems, affecting the turbo, valve cylinders, oil seals, valve stems, excessive cam wear, shim wear, and eventual sieze of engine

1993 mitsubishi pajero exceed-intercooler turbo 2800 diesel engine 4m40

Hi, I have a Pajero 2800 Turbo 1995 Auto. It has developed a bad oil leak somewhere around the front right hand side (from the front) where there seems to be oil spraying over the pipes, etc. Can't see it happening with the engine running and have cleaned the engine off but still can't see where it comes from. It has emptied the sump! Any ideas?
Cheers,
Rob.
