Sounds like a bad spark plug, spark plug wire. Probably the spark plug wire. They usually act that way when load is applied. It may misfire under light load and not at idle. Try plugs and wires.

when did you have your tires balanced last. If it has been awhile have them re-balanced. Your description sounds like you may have thrown a weight.

Front end vibration at 40 mph and rubbing sound


Vibration at 40 mph hard to diagonisis without looking at front end. Could be wheels need balancing, new wheels and rims. Loose or worn suspension items.
Bring vehicle into a tire and alignment shop. Most Sears auto center have them.
With regards to rubbing noise again hard to diagonisis without looking at the affected tire, probably a splash shield hitting the tire in reverse.
Alignment shop will find the problem.

Volvo claims that if you don't put them back just as you took them off, this will happen. You probably should pull it again, replace the U-joints and then attempt to put the shaft back as it was originally.
