Hi All, I own a 2000 Dodge Stratus. The heater in this car blows fine out the defroster but only sends a limited amount of air (heat) to the floor. I have looked under the dash and can see the vent door opening and closing as I turn the vent control. It is moving and changing the air flow but appears to be operating weakly. I thought it could be a loose vacuum hose but upon looking under the hood could find nothing that appeared to be leaking. Also, the vents which provide adjustable air from the center of the dash do not work no matter what I do. The fan seems strong and the heat is ample but the venting seems to not be working correctly. Has anyone had this problem? If so, what steps have you taken to resolve them. Thank You for any help, tavarish
My 1999 Dodge Avenger Air flow knob stopped directing the air flow. It seems to be stuck on "defrost." The a/c works fine, it just needs to blow out the vents. Is there a quick way to change the air flow direction manually for the summer until I'm able to get it repaired?

Do you mean the center vents can't blow air even when the A/C is working?
You need to be sure the car is not doing what it is supposed to.
The heater in the stratus is not one that can melt the rubber on your shoes -- it does blow warm air on the driver's feet, but not as much and not as hot as I would like. And it takes quite a while to warm up. Air delivery is better if a rear window is slightly open.
I'm not sure if this car uses vacuum or electic motors to move the ventilation doors and baffles. It might help if you listened to the noises made when you switch from dash vents to dash+foot vents to heater (feet only) to defrost+feet to defrost alone. I think there are distinct sounds made at each step. If you post them I will compare them to what mine makes.

Had a 1997 Breeze that did the same thing. It would take a few rotations of the switch far left, far right and left again to get the doors into the proper position. I believe they're electric doors as you can hear the sound when the engine's not running but the ignition is on.
