86 EXP - Spark Doesn't Make It To Distributor - Ideas Requested

I've got a problem with the ignition on a '86 EXP with the 1.9L EFI
engine.

The car stopped running suddenly and wouldn't start again. Towed it
home and guessed the ignition wasn't working. It cranks but never
starts. Doesn't even sound like it's firing.

Started checking for a spark and found the distributor cap center post
to be heavily corroded. Replaced the wire to the coil and the cap and
tried it again. Still no spark. Checked the output of the coil and
no spark so I put in a new coil. Now I have a spark out of the coil.

Here's where it gets weird. No spark ever gets to the plugs!

The only thing I can think of is the cap or rotor is bad. I thought
maybe the rotor wasn't turning but it is. I changed the cap already
due to the corroded post and no one has this rotor locally. They all
have the rotor from the non-EFI engine.

Has anyone ever seen anything like this before. It's got me stumped.
The rotor in there doesn't look bad.

Also, anyone know why the distributor center post corroded so badly.
None of the other posts show any signs of wear.

Thanks,

Paul

P.S. Know of any groups relating specifically to auto repairs.

Hello everyone;
I'm in search of any 1986 Ford EXP. We bought our daughter one in 1986 as a graduation present 22 years ago and now would like to suprise her with another since it was her 1st car.
Any help in locating one any where in the country would be very appreciative.

Try the Electronic ignition module, this controls the spark.

Had a 1988 Escort GT do the same thing. It was the ignition control module.
It is fairly easy to replace.
